Started WVO/RUG today

I installed new glow plugs, then pulled fuel screen from bottom of tank-used a 23mm bolt and 2 nuts. My fuel gauge sender is still jerky, but at 429 odo reading, tank only produced about 2 pints.

Ive been collecting grease from a mexican restaurant that fries only chips and shells, but thegunk that settles on the bottom leads me to conclude maybe hes flavoring his chips with lard!

Car was running rough after glow plug install(figured filters were clogging as result of running tank to empty), but after adding 5 gals filtered oil (5 micron bags) and 1.2 gallons RUG, roughness went away, and Id swear someone installed a gasser engine. All distinctive diesel clatter and nailing has disappeared! I ran a whopping 5 miles tonight-will keep you posted.

congratulations and look forward to your updates. Would you please consider removing your injectors and take before pictures? Or remove and clean them them properly and then take more pictures.

DD;
Congratulatons! If there is settling of gunk on the bottom, something is wrong...He may be using lard, or hydrogenated oil...You should be able to find out just by asking anyone in the restaurant..
Are you getting it from the dumpster, or directly from his fryers?

We have a mexican place here that even has NFL (no F'n lard) on their T-shirts...(-:
If it's hydrogenated, don't use it...you will never get it out....and will surely clog your fuel system.....think of white waxy fat when cold turns solid....
You don't want that in your car.

1#.... Always ASK what type of OIL they are cooking with!!!!!!!!!!

There should: never be any "TALLOW "at the bottom of your collection container

Any type of partiality hydrodgenated oil is a NO GO with blends!!!!

You need PURE OILs.. Soy,Canloa,Peanut, Cottenseed ... If it starts off CLEAR it's good to go. If it starts off CREAMY(before going into fryer) it's a NO GO!!!!!!!!!!

Number 1 RULE...FIND OUT WHAT KIND OF OIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost all MAJOR food changes use the WRONG OIL!

Color question

If you get tallowed oil and let it seperate.. can you siphon off the top oil and use that? Or are the fats still in that oil?..

Whats the cream colored stuff that settles if there is still fat in the top oil?

The fats are still in it...

I haven't done this, but I have heard that if you gravity/cold-filter the stuff, what comes through the filter should be good. Or use heaters and heated lines.

wait till the temps drop...then you will be walking when it solidifies...and does so enough to plug the filters...it doesen't take much.

Heating it makes it easier to filter but does nothing for the fats that solidify at lower temps.

BHD: I think he ment a two tank system.

I hope so anyway.....there are likely newbies who may not be aware of that problem....and going into winter that is a dangerous mistake. A WVO/RUG blend is not typically a dual tank blend. But a single tank unheated mix.

2nd day

on the blend. Ive got a rough idle at startup, but it was getting rough just prior to depleting the fuel tank and emptying, so I think a fuel filter is clogging.

Im going to run this til mid october, and then switch back to #2- Im self employed with 8 or 9 stops daily, and I cant afford to be stranded to save a few bucks. The typical fickle finger of fate is bad enough!

I just cant get over how this sounds loke a gasser!
