The Diesel Secrets lingo does smack of Biopower At the beginning Biopower were using about 5% white spirit and 95% SVO and putting it through a mixing and settling process, which I don't think did very much and then use it almost like straight veg oil. The white spirit (mainly used as paint brush cleaner) was there primarely because it has a lower flash point than SVO and allows start up in warm weather with no heating. Many alternatives could be used including kerosene (No.1 fuel for home heating, among other things) As biopower progressed they started experimenting with other solvents which would improve the ignition quality of the fuel (apologies if I have forgotten the fuel lingo to describe this properly) They then started talking about secret formulas and selling the additives to trusted agents. Perhaps now they are branching into the US or maybe someone else has beaten them to it. I don't know what Diesel Secrets are doing about the viscosity of their fuel, but no matter how hard I tried I could not get the viscosity anywhere near petro or bio diesel using the Biopower process. Viscosity is lowered by blending mainly kerosene (10%) with unsaturated OIL only (no grease). Cetane boost is also recommended.

From the DSE manual....
To five gallons of veg. oil add... 1/2 gallon kerosene 1/4 gallon regular unleaded gasoline 4 ounces PowerService additive 1 ounce DSE secret additive mix, filter, pump, go What do you think about it? Anyone done it? |

So basically they're just thinning the WVO with several chemicals and then advocating running that straight?
With the way prices are going, it might be worth a try... It just worries me to think of screwing up my IP, injectors, or engine to save a few bucks over diesel...it's the cheap guy who winds up paying the most... if anyone tries this out definitely post about it.

Yes, I ran across the site today and am intrigued. Inquiring minds want to know. Has anyone used this stuff yet? seems like 1 oz moth balls/5 gallons wvo is a pretty small ratio. I'm always a little distrustful of "secret ingredient" formulae.

You don't need the 1oz of diesel rip off. There are many people blending successfully without diesel, it's no secret it's a ripoff. Moth balls ( paradichlorobenzene & naphthalene) is very toxic and not necessary for a successful blend.
There is a blend that uses plant oils and was very close to being put to market in Germany. One of the researchers name is Hans Peter Schur. The formula was patented but has expired. Google search Schur Ecofuel, it's a bend 80% canola oil 15% gasoline 5% isoproplyl alcohol. Here's a quick blurb from a crappy google translation, for those who can't search "A Mercedes Benz of 300 turbo-Diesels is operated without problems since more than 200,000 km with the fuel. The engine of this vehicle was so far three times partly divided and examined by the company Hoeckele, Moessingen, (see reports). The results were very positive. Were neither nonspecific carbon deposits to recognize nor gluings of the piston rings or other damage. Surprising way was cleaner the inside of the engine with each examination of the engine than during the preceding dismantling, which suggests that the fuel has also a cleaning effect. The emission values of the vehicle were measured twice with the TUEV and found good."
