Forgot to switch from WVO to Diesel - HELP!!!!

OK - It has been in the low 30's here in SLC and I was driving on WVO - lots on the mind, not to mention I am an idiot anyway - and forgot to throw the switch. I tried starting the car the next morning not realizing that I was still on WVO. I switched the car over to diesel but it will not start. I looked at the clear filter and realized it was filled with solid veggie oil. I began boiling many pots of hot water and poured them over the IP, but it still will not start. I also tried the priming pump to get diesel into the lines, but it won't prime.

I bought the car with a heated two tank system with an inline spin-on filter already installed. The Filter has heater hoses wrapped around it. The priming system also uses a loop with a little valve that has to be opened during priming.

Any suggestions?????????????

Heated garage. Or unheated garage or enclosure with as many electric space heaters as you can hook up blowing on the IP, lines and filter under the hood. Plug in block heater too. You need to install a buzzer/light that goes off if the ignition is switched off with the WVO system still activated. RT

That IP is very tight tolerance... the FSM warns about thermal shocks to it... which one would usually think of cold water when it is warm... but I would sure be careful about that method...

I would take off the spin on filter and do a diesel purge according to directions.. ie, introducing it to the rear of the IP... A hair dryer two feet away from the IP might help. Take off the individual injection lines ... they can be heated closer with the hair dryer when off with no danger.
Don't know how far back your changeout lines are... if you can only hook up to diesel after the Purge that would be best...

What they said plus fill the spin on fuel filter with diesel. It really is going to need to go in a hot garage. You can try a 150,000-175,000 BTU kerosene torpedo heater. Jack the car up a bit and have the torpedo heater blow under it while keeping the hood closed to trap the heat in.

OK, If you cannot do any of the above, continue with the hot water over the injectors, injector lines, IP, filter, lift pump and lines to the C/O valve (I hope it is in the engine bay).
When these are warmed up, have someone spray CRC or WD40 in the air cleaner while you crank the engine. Have them keep spraying until the engine responds to the throttle.
I have done this successfully on 2 or 3 occasions with different vehicles. (not all MB diesels).

I have also successfully used a teaspoon of petrol in the inlet manifold to assist starting a "difficult" engine. It pings like mad until the petrol is consumed, but if injectors are working, this usually starts the engine.

If propane torch is available, apply to air inlet (remove air cleaner and put flame into inlet manifold) while cranking.

Risks:
Damage to engine due to early ignition of spray. Minimised if the spray is started after 2 engine revolutions (cooler GPs).
Damage to IP if oil is still solid. Minimised by use of copious amounts of boiling water to heat the WVO, melting it.
Hint: Dribble the water over the parts to be heated. Once it runs off, no further heat will be transferred.

When you converted the car, The banjo bolt on top of the secondary filter housing should have been plugged to prevent mixing of fuels. What this does unfortunately is prevent the priming pump from working properly as it has no where to push the fuel/air. Try cracking the fuel inlet line on the front of the injection pump and then pump like hell on the primer making sure your selector is set for diesel. This should push out the thick veg and push in some diesel. HTH Mike
