Stupid WVO question

Please forgive my ignorance, but when I read about the grease collectors mining restaraunts for wvo, they always talk about hitting the chinese, mexican, non-chain, type restaraunts. I don't ever see anyone talking about hitting up McD's or Burger King. What am I missing here? Thanks

There are no stupid questions. Just stupid people.

In my experience, the fastfood restraunts use a weird type of hydrogenated oil. Maybe that is why the food is so fattening? I know someone who works at a local fastfood joint. He says they have a recycling program for their oil. Good, they can keep it. Unless you have a very good heated system, dont even go near the fast food places. Also, the large restraunts have big contracts with removal companies. Smaller mexican, chinese, ect. have single contracts that can be "bent" to allow you to take some of the oil. Good luck. Find a nice restraunt that has good oil, and keep friendly with them.

If you get a chance to go look in a grease dumpster behind a chain store like that, you'll know why nobody wants to use there oil. I looked in the grease dumpster of a Long John Silver's once. It was sick.

chain's like MCd's have have contracts signed and printed before they even open their doors. It's just how they do business. Now, the mom and pop places (TexMex, Chinese etc.) often do not have specific contracts. It really has little to do with the oil. Its just business. Now some chains due use hydrogenated oil (BK) that is solid at room temp (or close to it) so you avoid that stuff anyway.
