I have ordered the viton hoses for my 81 300D to run biodiesel. I have looked but not found a viton hose to replace the fitted hose from the fuel tank to the steel line. Do I need to change this hose?

I ordred mine from Greaseworks in Corvallis, OR. I bought a complete kit from them for around 80 or 90 bucks and it came with that section of line. They might sell you just that section of line, I dunno. I've heard that BD only affects rubber when there's heat involved. BUT, the rubber seal around the filler neck on mine is toast from about nine months of using BD, so go figure.

I've run B100 on two cars now, with hoses that weren't changed in the time I owned the cars(1+ years), and I've never felt the need to shell out the extra $$$ for viton hoses. My step-dad's Datsun, however, eats through regular hose like crazy when running bio through it. The only leak I've ever had was the small return lines between the injectors. I read on here recently that if you just replace the hoses, you should be fine. The reason most of them will leak is because they probably haven't been changed in quite some time.

I second the motion of not really needing viton hoses. I bought a set from greaseworks as well. And when I put them all on I cut some of the ones that were on the car in half to see what they looked like on the inside. They looked just fine. This is after 1 year and 8000 miles of B100 use. Search my name and fuel lines and you will find photos, if you like.

I bet Justin as greaseworks will sell you the one hose you need. Also I wouldn't replace the cigar hose with a straight hose. When I changed mine to a straight hose it made the car start making a thwup thwup thwup noise from the fuel pulsing. I put the cigar hose back on and the noise went away.

Fuel filler neck seal-I too, had my fuel filler neck seal get all gooy and gross fro the biodiesel. I'm sure the rubber they use for that isn't as high quality as the fuel lines and thats why they breakdown. clint77002-just keep an eye on you filler neck seal. They are like $3 for a new one. If you wipe the area clean after filling you probably won't have a problem.

I agree. This is a great forum. I've run b100 in 1991 Jetta for 2 years and 1981 MB 300D for couple months without changing any hoses except ones between injectors. Leaks dont spring up overnight or anything and cause a hazardous situation. Just change out any old looking hoses you can get off. If you cant get em off then maybe the biod will work them loose for you
