Hydrogen Boost...What do you think of this?

http://www.hydrogen-boost.com/January%202006.html This site came up on a search and looks kinda interesting but not a lot of facts.Everything on the internet is true though. |
Sounds like a good idea if it works like they claim. Plus its the same price as my WVO kit.
|
problem is the storage requirements....Hydrogen requires some very high pressure to save any real quantities , it doesn't liquify as redily as LPG or LNG do. I've heard numbers of arounf 5,000 psi....thats without doing a search...figure what would happen if that tank were to rupture in a crash.

I'll have to read it in more depth buy I'm a bit skeptical just on the scientific basis. My understanding of hydrogen generation is that you're going to put in a tad more BTUs to generate the hydrogen than you're going to get when burning it. The 12 volt power to crack that hydrogen has to come from somewhere, and in this case it'll be from your engine power. Also, if the hydrogen is part of the air that's being compressed, what's to stop it from burning prematurely, that is, when the air gets hot enough to ingite it but the piston is not yet at TDC.
I'm sure there's more to the science that I don't get, though. Maybe hydrogen has a higher flash point and will only be ignited by the burning diesel. |
Compressed hydrogen! I can see it now, a huge hindenburg-esque fireball, parts falling from the sky, news reporter crying "oh the humanity!"...

Bunk
Another bogus money mill scam...
cmac2012 and boneheaddoctor are correct, science does not support their claim. Have a great day. |

I think that it sounds good, but an on board hydrogen generator? I dont think you could make an appreciable amount to do anything.
|
From what I understand this is not compressed hydrogen like in hydrogen fuel cells.
This is low pressure hydrogen so your car gets hydrogen enriched air which burns differently than normal air so a leaner mixture can be ran so they say. But like stated above it takes energy to make the hydrogen. This energy is not free. |
Is it made from electrolisis in water?

Bunk

These scams where all over in the 1970's. All where proved to be FRAUD, and prosecuted. Bogus Fuel-Saving Device Sellers diesel/gasoline http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=145605 |

That certainly does not suprise me. |
It looks like all the parts are home made! Do I see rubber pipe caps and hose clamps? The most complex part looks to be the soldered copper device.

That thing is a waste of money. It's a 5th grade electrolysis science project. Two gold electrodes in seawater in separate O2 and H2 columns that are piped into the engine for what...900 calories of energy for a 20amp draw on the alternator to make it? Nope....it's not a submarine.

Sort of going off topic, but I heard somewhere before that Volvo (the truck side) had a way for collecting hydrogen while the truck was running, and then run it through a fuel cell when the truck was parked (when it would normally be running a 10L diesel to simply run a few electrical accessories). Anyone heard about this before?
