I am looking for some new suggestions for filtering WVO.

I have used Mcmaster Carr bag filters but they clog sort of quickly, and seem hard to clean. ( My oil source is pretty clean & I run it through a 1st stage of floded material before the .5 m bag filter.)

One of these with a 1micron catridge. Warm the oil and it flows through quickly. I use the drill pump to move it faster and gets the oil clean!

Also have you heard of the jean pants method? buy a new pair of levis, cut off one leg and sew the bottom of it together. Thats a 5micron filter bag thats washable!

No lie it really works, thats my prefiltering then i filter it through the canister.

I am officially done with trying to filter the stuff before putting it into the car. No method works fast. I ruined several pumps trying to get the stuff through a water filter. Now I just put it into a 55 gallon drum with a drain 6 inches from the bottom. I also have a bag of water softener salt at the bottom. I pump the oil into the drum, heat it up with a water heater element for about 5 hours, let it sit for a few days and drain off the oil. All the crap and water stays at the bottom. Must be doing something right because my fuel filter never clogs. My filter is coolant heated, and has a drain at the bottom. I drain off anything that settles to the bottom every few hundred miles, but only when I get really crappy oil does anything other than oil drain out.

I've been using a 10 micron filter bag with an overflow into another bag. running warm oil, pumped with a automotive oil pump. Small block chevy I think. hooked to 1/3 hp motor using fuel line as a coupling hose clamped to the 2 shafts allows it to slip if something goes wrong.

run thru a 5 micron water filter with the same pump for filling.

in the truck I use the goldenrod filter head #595 I think, threaded on it is a WIX 24348 filter. 10 micron massive sucker with a drain.

I am considering soaking my used filter bags in some of this Oxy Cclean "mircile stuff". I've seen it disolve every bit of dirt into suspension on their infomercials...
ANyone use this..?

Do not know if it right or wrong=but I use gas to clean my bag filters.Cleans them up and kills any fungus that maybe growing.

Get a five gallon bucket, put a gallon or two in there, dunk it and watch the fat melt off.

I am a big proponent on-board filtration. I pour the oil into my tank through a paint strainer bag, under the hood I have an aux. electric fuel pump 15psi to help the MB mechanical unit and run first through a Dutten Lainson Goldenrod with a 100 mesh strainer insert, then through a sediment filter with a 5 m-15 micron filter. I have a flat plate heat exchanger to pre-heat the oil before filtration (coolant heated) and fattywagon.com's injector line heater. Works great for a 1 tank system in Hawaii and you spend about as much time getting and "filtering" the oil as you would going to the diesel pump.

I forgot to mention- If ever you need to clean the filter and don't mind waiting for it to dry, you can pick up some lye you local hardware store (Red Devil brand or other) in the drain opener section. Mix 1/2 cup in 1/2 gallon of water, put on some gloves and watch the oil dissolve. Very caustic stuff, though, so be careful.

Gone last night-but sailor had it right.Turn them inside out and put in 5 gal bucket. Scrap the crap off and you can get them clean. I only get 7-8 gal of oil out ,before I need to clean them. But have not plugged a filter yet.Filter to 1 micron.

Well I just soaked for a few hours in 5 gal bucket of hot H2O and Citrus boat cleaner (Startron stuff.) Disolves tar etc...
I let it dry in the sun and am filtering my 1st 5 gallons of UCO in it now.
It looked pretty clean; but if it's not alot better I will try the RUG soak.

Heck I could always filter that and blend it with the UCO and burn it....

waste not want not...

That is what I do-filter the gas through the filters and burn it.
