Diesel Prices Up, SVO Prices Down!

Wooohooo, the price of the 4.6-gallon jugs of soy oil in Costco is now $11.99, and that calculates to $2.61/gallon. Today's crude oil price is above $71/barrel, and I can see the price of diesel to continue to go up! The cheapest diesel price in my area has gone from $2.99 to $3.09 within 5 days. I will continue to stock up on the soy oil at this price. I just bought 6 jugs today and will continue to pick up more everytime I go shopping in Costco. At 45 cents and more per gallon savings, this is definitely worth it. I calculate to save about $30/month, just changing over to SVO.

Brace yourselves for sky-high fuel prices this year, as oil companies raise prices in the struggle to survive....

Sams around here has the oil cubies for $13-14, around 2.96 a gallon, diesel is only 4 cents away from that around here though its gone up about 22 cents in 1.5 weeks. RUG + Soyoil seems to be about equal in price though, and I like how it runs on it, so I'll probably switch over sometime soon. By chance i did find diesel at a meijer around here today at 2.65!!! I crammed every last drop I could in my tank.....so I am good for a while. After this tank is gone I'll probably switch though. Unlikely I'll see 2.65 again.

Just by chance it turns out that the largest SoyBean Production Plant in Michigan is located 23 miles from my house!!! I am calling them tomorrow to ask about prices on regular soybean oil, and on their "SoyDiesel" that they also produce (they claim to keep 60,000 gallons of it onhand in a huge heated tank, and there's a pic..) Maybe they will give a good price for bulk purchase!!! We'll see....

I didn't search but are you guys running straight WVO in your benz?

or are you altering anything before using the wvo?
I assume you are not making bio...correct?

I found a source for 2.49 gallon in square tins.. just wondering if I can run it?

That's the funniest thing I've seen so far today!

Can't you get tax breaks, too, for spending money to convert your car to run on VO? Does anyone know the rules behind this?

I had VO in mind when I bought my car and the conversion date is drawing closer and closer...I think.

This has been discussed in past threads. When the weather is warm i.e. above freezing, you can put soy bean oil DIRECTLY into your tank, no conversion needed. It is important to buy oil that does not contain other stuff. I avoid "salad" oil that are sold in some restaurant supply places. Soy bean oil, corn oil, canola oil, and peanut oil (also others) are called SVO. Do not confuse this with WVO which is waste vegetable oil, and need to be filtered etc to be used. I avoided this as I do not have the time or place to do that. What is easier than buy the oil from Costco and put it right into the tank? Most people for a tankful of SVO add 1/2 gallon of unleaded gas and 1/2 a bottle of Diesel kleen or any other cetane booster, And that's it.
Many who knows do not spread the knowledge around, afraid that the price of the 4.6-gallon jugs of soy bean oil in Costco or Sam's Club will go up, or alert the feds?? I suppose at present not enough people uses it that it does not raise a red flag for the feds, but it may do so if the price of diesel continues to rise the way they are doing now (15 cents in 2 days!) and more people jumps on the bandwagon,

Diesel is now up to around $ 2.70 here; but I just filled up with 99% Biodiesel for $ 2.50 per gallon. Two months ago #2 was $2.45 and BioD was $ 3.

Arrow WVO vs SVO vs Diesel...

You can pay $3.00 a gallon for diesel, or

you can pay $2.61 gallon for bulk soybean oil...or

you can do what alot of people do

Get WVO from a good source for FREE and filter it through some old clothes or a bed sheet.

I actually enjoy scooping my oil from the dumpster behind Kyotos japaneese restaurant. I get it when ever I want. It's clean like Cola, and it smells like Tempura when I drive my car. And it's nice to save about $40. per week not have to buy dino. Sometimes I go for a drive just to smell my engine..that's weird , EH????

$2.50 a gallon for Bio-diesel in Houston. What the heck. Here in portland last time I checked it was 3.20 a gallon (they gouged during katrina and never came back down) I boycot Sequential (Kulongoski PR company; would have never made it otherwise in my opinion and now they gouge). I made my first batch yesterday worked good. But I've been running WVO in my truck and mixed with Rug in my benz and that is good enough for now. The WVO conversion on the Wagon will be done soon though. Still not sure how long I want to run a rug mix. For a couple years ahh no problem...long run I'm still not quite sold but what the heck. The amount I save I could by 3 or for engine replacements.

Ohhh and not so weird to drive it just to smell it. I just did that tonight

HOUSTON BIODIESEL ROCKS! I work 20 mins from there!!!

Im running 20% in mine, they guys at Houston Bio recommended against running B99 the first few tanks, even though I have run a Biocide in the tank already. Right now its around a B15 blend. I really want to go B99 all the way, but Im scared of clogging strainers and filters and getting stranded. I have filters, but I dont see how swapping a strainer on the side of the road is possible....
