WO (not WVO) as a fuel source...

I am here in Hilo with my 240D, there seem to be alot of W123s here on the Big Island. I was telling my neighbor about my Lister CS diesel running on waste motor oil. Then we started talking about running the 240D on waste motor oil. I guess its possible but what are the drawbacks? Are there any? The neighbor owns a fleet operation where they have lots of waste oil.

Thanks

KingSlug

Well if you would like to hurt the enviroment 100 times worse then regular diesel, as well as TONS AND I MEAN TONS OF BLACK SMOKE even at idle. then yes go right ahead. Youll also get the cops attention and you can get a fat ticket for running on that since its extremley pollutant.

If you want to run used crankcase oil id suggest mixing 1-4 quarts with a fill up of diesel just for better lubrication but NOT straight crankcase.

Cummins has that option.

On the big ones, NOT Dodge pickups, there is an option that does draw a small amount of engine oil out for injection. Keep in mind that even a 1% extension of fuel range (here on the mainland) on an end to end trip of I 95 or I 40 IS worth it in the wallet. As for us in the small diesels, I actually used double filtered old motor oil - it works BUT don't go more than 1/2 a quart per tank. Soot and smoke can become an 'issue' with the local constabulary.

why not just add a couple gallons of filtered wvo to the diesel tank at full and go that way?
