More Biodiesel in Northwest Ohio

I live near Bryan, OH which is about 'spitting distance' from Indiana and Michigan. Last year about twenty miles from me in Defiance, OH a biodiesel plant started up called American Ag Fuels. Time to time I keep in contact with one of the company founders. He informs me that since they have started they have had the good/bad fortune of having more demand than what they can produce.

Two weeks ago in a local news paper there was an article about another biodiesel plant that is in the works and hoping to start up in May of 2006. This plant is located in (yes this is the name....I was born there) Hicksville, OH. The name of this biodiesel business is PEC Biofuels.

Apparently, there is just a little bit of demand out there for alternative fuels.

Hi Nate,

It sure will be great for the American farmer to get a fair price for crops that can produce biodiesel or oil, and at the same time the American taxpayer does not have to subsidize agricultural commodity prices. And less money goes to people who are essentially enemies of our way of life. It's a real win-win-win situation.

I have a 1995 GMC Sonoma and would like to know what you would consider as its replacement if not another GM product. It may be a long time before I ever replace it, but I like some of the other products out there also. But I have been shocked at the poor fuel mileage (and some require premium gasolene) that some of the other mid-size and larger trucks get now.

I am still a bit surprised at myself in regards to my current view of GM products. I have been a die hard GM owner for years with very favorable experience, except when it comes to my 1995 S-10. I have had numerous ignition and fuel issues that I have not had in previous GM experience.

As far as replacing your Sonoma I am not sure what to say. GM builds the S-10 in a diesel in Brazil. That would be ideal for me. I use my truck a fair bit, but I do not need a full size truck with a large diesel engine. I am watching to see if DCX will offer the 2.8 diesel that is used in the Jeep Liberty for the Dodge Dakota.
