WVO 55 Gallon filter drum question

To all you experianced WVO people. I'm just getting started. Did searchs, couldn't find anything.

I found a used 55 gallon drum to use for my filtering. I drilled a hole in the bottom to attach the spout to and used black iron pipe that is a bit bigger than the hole. I then screwed the pipe in. The pipe is tapered so that as it goes in, it gets tighter and tighter.

So here is the question, will the filtered oil leak out with the pressure of all the oil? I used some thread sealer and the fit is ultra tight. Only thing is it's just some thin sheet metal. On all the pictures I see, I never get to see the spout at the bottom!!

Just wanted to try to get info ahead of time. My fist attempt resulted in WVO all over the place from a leak.

JB wled it to hell and back ..

but if you have a friend that can weld i would recomend welding it

a question

why didnt you just put the drum upside down use the already existing fittings and cut the bottom off.. a lid can easily be made.

fitting location

I wanted the exit spout to be above the bottom, even though i'm filtering to 1 micron, i wanted a few inches below.

I used the 1in existing opening on the lid, which is now the bottom, and put a waste valve in it to be able to dump from the very bottom of the drum.

you can still have the exit for the veggie an inch above the bottom.. its a stand pipe design. just like a standpipe wash tank. same principal
