Hicken,

Welcome. I have been running my 85 Benz on 80% WVO and 20% Gas while I work on the real conversion. I hope you are kidding about just filtering through a tee shirt! I have a complicated filtering set-up where the first barrel is filtered through a tee shirt. This is my rough filtering, storage barrel. From there it goes to another barrel for heating, settling, more filtering..etc. The barrel has about 6 inches of scum, junk, fat whatever, after being filled just once. If you put that in your car you would get 2 blocks before your filter clogged. There are quick and easy ways to filter. Buy Dana's plans at infopop. Don't reinvent the wheel.

ways to filter

here are a few ways to filter without big bucks...

1. go to the car wash and ask for 55 gal drums.. they have the
best white plastic drums... I got 4 for free...

2. buy filter bags...10, 5, and 1 micron... stick them inside each other...
put the 5 in the 1 and then put the 10 in the 5....

3. you can either get a 5 gal water dispenser jug or use a grease cubby..
put your oil in the 5 gal water disperser jug... and turn it upside down over the 55 gal drum... with the filter bag hanging down... the filter bag will fill up and then the 5 gal water dispenser jug will let oil in as it flows out of the filter bags.... very effective.... Or you can cut a V notch in the cubby, and put the lid back on it... now lay it on its side and loosen the lid till a little stream is flowing down into the filter bag which is hanging into your 55 gal drum.. use the lid to adjust the amount of oil that is drizzling into the filter bag....

always filter cold

I drive on wvo right in the fuel tank....I only filter it....

I do filter through a t-shirt... but as you said, that is just my "prefilter" I am setting up a system like most of you have. 2 5gal buckets (T-Shirt) filter oil into 55gal holding drum. From the holding drum it will be pumped through a 20micron inline filter info a "blending" drum. Then after blending... it will be pumped through a 10 micron spin on type oil filter, then through a water trap/filter into a final drum. From there it will be pumped throught a 2 micron filter into my car. Should that be good enough?

10 micron filter $13.99 http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_12006_12006

trap filter $26.99 http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_910811_910811

Now, if the oil is clean and just a bit cloudy... how small does the filter need to be? Is a new T-Shirt good enough? How many microns do you think a t-shirt is anyway?

Thanks!
I wouldn't use any less than a 10 micron filter before running it in your benz. Some people even use 5 micro bags. You can get these online on sites such as: mcmaster.com, pages 344-347 and i'm sure others. I wouldn't use a t-shirt unless you use it as a prefilter on a settleing barrel.

I also have a 600, 400, 200, and 100 micron prefilter i have over a 5 gallon bucket inserted in a 30 gallon drum, this gets all the french fry and other deep fryer residue out first: us plastics carries these: www.usplastic.com

here's a pic of my desigen:

biodiesel.infopop.cc is a great place to get more info on this stuff...good luck

1 micron

get yourself a 10, 5 and 1 micron filter bag....
2.50 each.... then cut a hole in the top of your 55 gal drum..
maybe 6 inches... cut a v slot into your cubby mouth...
now put the lid on the cubby and put the filter bags inside the 1 micron
bag.... the 5 in the 1 and the 10 in the 5... so it looks like this
10,5,1 hang them into the drum...lay the cubby over on its side...
open the lid just a little until a steady little stream is falling into the
filter bag....

This way.... with the cubby on its side... all the trash stays in the cubby..
and the cleaner oil drips into the filter bags... and you can leave it unattended... and you filter in on sitting down to 1 micron....

you will wake up tomorrow morning and have 5 gal of wvo filtered... and there is enough room on top of the 55gal barrel to sit 3 cubbys doing this... and your total cost is 7 bucks for the filter bags....

a new pair jean pants leg is 5 microns, and is washable. I use that as my prefilter.

My filtering setup is pretty simple. i heat it at 90F for about a week or two to de-water and settle. Then pour it through a jean pants leg, and finally pump it through a water canister filter with a 1 micron catridge.

From my understanding and previous posts you said you had been making your own bio and running it in your 300D. But stopped because you lost your oil supplier

How is that not one drop of bio?

Ive had my 87 300D for little over a month and already running it on 10% diesel and 80% wvo blends with a fattywagon electrotherm put inline before the ip.

Works great! and carry 3 spare fuel filters in the trunk with tools and powerservice to change them if i clogged on the road.

EDIT: plus with diesel costing $3.56 a gal im not going to run diesel!!. b100 from bayareabiofuel.com is cheaper! $2.99 a gal

GAWD...diesel here in east jesus Virginia is still 2.85...I am just floored at the difference Va-Cali but I guess state sales taxes are eating you up out there. The b100 you get...do you know if it's made from virgin oil or WVO....probably a stupid question but I'm curious as biodiesel is still an alien concept out here on the "right" coast countryside.
