Biodiesel Happenings in the Houston Area

Thought I'd share this bit of info. Ridinsmooth called me today and told me at the Pilot truck stop on I-45 North and Patton, they are now selling B15 at the pump, today it was $2.79/gal. This is the first I've heard of a major brand name facility selling biodiesel at the pump in the Houston area.

Houston Biodiesel moved to a new location today. They moved from their previous location in the far northside of Houston to a new location right near downtown Houston at 723 N. Drennan. That'll reduce my commute for large percentage blends of biodiesel by almost 20 miles. B99's being sold for $2.59/gal there.

I also read in the newspaper last week that a new biodiesel plant is being built on Galveston Island. According to the article, it'll be complete by this year's end, and will have the capacity to produce 100 million gallons of biodiesel a year, but initially, they'll start with 20 million a year. They'll use soybean oil as well as other renewable oils to make the fuel. They're looking mainly to municipalities and school districts and businesses to sell their diesel to, but don't have any contracts signed.

Glad to here its getting more popular down there. My boss told me he thought he'd heard something in the news about Willy Nelson building a plant close to me in OK but I haven't heard any more about it. I can't wait till we can get it here.

Hopefully it'll drop, the No 2 at Valero off I10 and Eldridge is usually ~$2.74/gal...

I go to the Texaco truck stop on I-45 North at the Little York exit. No. 2 is $2.75/gal there. I would guess the Flying J is cheaper (usually by a cent), but it's almost at FM1960, which is a further push for me (especially when real low on fuel), and it's always busy with pickups whereas the Texaco sees mostly coach buses, big rigs, and those small furniture store trucks (Izuzu, Hino types) away from the auto pumps at the hi-flow pumps, which means I probably couldn't fill all the way to the top of the filler neck without some impatient cowboy in line at the auto pump at Flying J in his Powerstroke wanting to start a fight with me for me taking too long.

I hit the Flyin J here in Dallas off I20/45 on the way to Houston usually, big trucks are always fillin' up there. I'd buy the Bio if it wasn't spendy... BUT I'll be brewing my own soon enough.

The Bio isn't spendy, it's cheaper than D2, $2.59 per gallon. I fill up at Houston Biodiesel every Wednesday night.

If you really want the address, they're located at 723 N. Drennan. Houston, TX 77003. They're not open on weekends.
