biodiesel use?

I heard that pre 1994 (car co.'s in general) cars may have natural rubber. Does anyone know if 1983 M-Benz turbo-diesel has any natural rubber where it would make a difference for using biodiesel? I'm just starting to check into this and heard about this being incompatible, biodiesel and natural rubber. Other issues could be the solvent effect of biodiesel which may clear out some deposits and therefore clog filters. Would there be any filters besides the fuel filter that might be affected? Any other wisdom, advice, or suggestions about using biodiesel? Thanks! Peter Feneht, Madison, Wis.

25 year old fuel lines will leak, and more so with biodiesel use. They should be replaced anyway, so if you plan to use biodiesel, use Viton lines. You can get good information on biodiesel use at http://forums.biodieselnow.com/default.asp I bought all my Viton through www.mcmaster.com If you need information on sizing, do a search at biodieselnow or PM me.

you can use stock lines, they are supposed to be changed every 3-4 years IIRC ..gives you the initiative to stick your head into the engine to change the fuel lines every 3 years if you run bio...

I consider bio to be a cleansing experience. In more ways than one. IMO every old mb should have a few tanks of bio run through it. You will find issues that you werent aware of and probably would find out on your first LD trip.

Unfortunately the lines degrade and plug the filter, which can get expensive. I regularly plug my primary filter with rubber from the "cigar hose". I have a clear glass filter with cheap replaceable elements, but I need to replace that last piece of rubber.

But new lines may deal better with bio -- I've not heard any reports from drivers using new factory replacement hose with B100.

Where did you get the glass filter housing and replacement filters, part number, web link, etc.

I found it at Autozone, in the "bling" aisle. Each replacement element comes with new rubber gaskets too, and the whole thing deals well with biodiesel. It cost about $10 I think.
