Great, what next? I run SVO, but I am sure that they (Big Bro) will screw that up in time too. Never fails . .

Just keep your garage door closed. And if anybody asks, it's a big water heater. You take loooooong showers.

I'd be more concerned about my homeowners insurance not paying after I burned my house down.

ya gotta admit, it can be dangerous.

and I understand how a fire would be problematic for the FD and insurance companies are all looking for a way to avoid paying a claim, and a large fuel refinery in garage could qualify as an escape for them... but the MSD sheets and industrial zoning is a bit much...

Well its kind of like having a crack lab I guess. What about just doing it in the shed outback to avoid any fire hazards? No one will ask, if they do figure it out then.

Maybe I should post an MSDS on the peanut oil in my kitchen.

doesn't seem like they've taken any action yet. The main site that is linked to is for facilities producing more than 18.6 million gallons/year. Otherwise local fire regulations apply which has been already addressed at the http://www.biodieselcommunity.org/gettingstarted/

site. (read don't keep lots of methanol around, have a fire extinguisher capable of fighting a grease or other liquid hydrocarbon flammable).

if you're homebrewing, I'd just avoid the fires and they should leave you alone. In the alternative, just go with ForcedInduction's advice

Well I guess Willie will be all up in arms against Oregon.

Since his last drug bust we have decided that he will probably now make his biodiesel from Marijuana, then he can just burn it in the bus and run a hose into the cabin to get high. That way he kills two birds with one stone, he gets his fuel and his high from only one burning.

Perhaps Willie could also try making his biodiesel from those hallucinogenic mushrooms... wonder what that would smell like coming out of the exhausts?!?!?

Larry - also wanted to thank you for the advice on Delo 400 from the other oil thread, I think that's the way I'm going from now on.

Just be glad you're not in the UK. Over there, running even SVO/WVO can net you a hefty fine, jail time, and your car confiscated for willful tax evasion - using an untaxed fuel.

Even with a separate shed and avoiding the fire hazards/insurance problems, if they wanted to be anal about it they could still get you for the industrial zoning violation.

I can already give you a scenario where they could put the stops on WVO use - declare that used cooking oil is a potential health hazard and must be sent to a "properly equipped disposal facility", all in the name of public safety.

I plan to do a two tank SVO/WVO system in my car if I ever move. That way there will be no hazzardous material headaches involved. Just stuff that the FDA certified fit for human consumption . Its not a road fuel until I put it in my car .

Seriously though, Washington state is looking at regulating biodiesel production too. If it ONLY effects the comercial producers of it I have no problem. There are too many hacks not doing it right.
