1995 E300D on Biodiesel

Hello all,

I recently purchased a E300 diesel and intend to run in on biodiesel. I have gotten mixed signals regarding what I have to modifiy, if anything, to do it properly. I live in a cooler climate and plan to run a mix of roughly 20-30% bio in the winter and 99% bio in the summer. I understand my car has a fuel heater which helps with biodiesel but, the fuel will gel below 40 degress F, true? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Do I need to change the fuel lines or is 95 a new enough model to not worry about long term decay?

Any other parts I should be concerned about?

Thanks

I've run quite a few tanks of B99 thru my 99 E300 w/o any problems other than reduced MPG's of ~10%.

I live in Calif so can not comment on gel temps but believe it to be much lower than 40. I've certainly run B99 below 40.

You may want to carry an extra fuel filter, pre-filter (with o ring) and feul line o rings in case some gunk from the tank gets loosened up or a leak develops.

Using WVO would require some mods.

Thanks Terry,

I have a few of the main can style fuel filters and plan to change the existing filter after a few tanks of b99. I wasn't aware of a prefilter, where is that housed relative to the main filter? You can tell I am new at this. Thanks again,

Mike

Last summer I ran my 1985 300D and my 1999 E300 over 7,000 each on commercial B100. No issues.

I do recommend that any hose or o-ring that you replace that you use Viton. Viton is much more heat tolerant.

Then you are going to need this for your 606.910.

http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb1.asp?TP=1&F=124131&VIN=

Click on section 07 Injection Pump, then subsection 120 and look for part #26 Pre-filter. Oftentimes as important as the prefilter is the o-ring that seals it! See part #29 and get a new one if you dont know the history of the car. Is often overlooked as is a separate part number.

Great,

Does the E300 come with a prefilter or is that a recommended add on? I have seen the part for sale and I see nothing like it on my engine. I could be looking in all the wrong places however.

I would love to know of any links to a schematic of the 606.910 showing what is what.

Mike

Yes. Note the fine print...

"Use with (1) 601 997 01 48 pre-filter seal ring" (Sold separately)

The link is good. Try again.
