What do you cut your WVO with?

So, what do you cut your WVO with?

I've been running ~50% diesel with WVO filtered to .5 microns. I ran almost one tank full at 100% WVO coming back from Kentucky. How do you guys do it?

I'm leaving today on a 500 mile run up to Columbus Ohio. I have about 75% WVO, 15% biodiesel, and 10% Diesel in there. I have 10 gallons of biodiesel in the trunk for use during the week and I have 20 gallons of 80% WVO/20% diesel in the trunk for the run back.

It looks like it might snow up there so I will probably be on pump diesel during the week and then load up on WVO just before I come home. I have a FPHE/FPHX in the engine bay, but my lines from the main tank are not heated. Someday I will two tank it.

-Jim
(PS I filter everything to 1 micron.)

The 10% is a great place to start and summer driving that is perfect. As for snow driving..hmmmmm I would greatly increase that....say 50% diesel or more. I know the pumps are robust but that may just be cruel haha, but just see how it runs for you...they are forgiving. It never gets that cool around here so I don't have much experience with cold weather. Either way don't stress about it to much.

I use 1/2 gallon of RUG to every 4-41/2 gallons of WVO.

I tried Kerosene once and it really liked it but that stuff is way too expensive.

I ran with Matt300SD's diesel, naptha mix but the weather has cooled off and the engine's compression is definitely not where it used to be and so the fuel runs great when the engine is hot but I think it's too viscous for my car's engine compression when it's cold. The GP's have to be so hot i have to blow on the salt shaker to cool the dash GP down since it smells like melted plastic on the dash!

I since have increased it to 20% RUG but it sounds like baseball cards in bicycle tires anytime I lean into the throttle until the engine heats up and even then pushing on the throttle causes the tappa, tappa, tappa.

20% methanol, 9grams/liter KOH, added when hot.

OLD 300D--It depends on what your oil titrates on how much KOH you need to add-correct?

I prefer 20% methanol with 7grams/liter NaOH, but Old 300D definately has the best blend!

I live in north eastern Canada. It gets cold in the winter. I run 50% Diesel
and 50% WVO all winter. But run 100% WVO or SVO all summer.
I have been doing it for years with no problems yet. I found that if you
don't need a jacket to go to your car, runnung SVO is fine. Need a Pullover
run 20%, Hat and mitts run 50/50. Jay

Summer WI: 50% diesel worked but looking into the viscosity I changed to WVO + 20% RUG. I have not heated my lines yet. Leaning toward an 4 gallon aux. diesel tank and whatever mix will flow in the main tank till -10*F then 100% dino. Still looking for cheap 12 volt silicone pad heater for under the IP to nozzle lines.

Old300,

Not ready to use Methanol and Sodium Hydroxide. Maybe by summertime.

Targa,

50-50 works in the cold of Canada? How cold have you used this mixture? I do not use seperate tanks nor do I use a heater.

My Blend

In my Mercedes I mix 5% RUG and 20% K-1 ($2.50/gal) to the WVO, I also add some Power Service Cetane Booster (grey bottle) at a rate of about 16 ounces per 40 gallons. It works out to around .50 per gallon of finished fuel.

In my '99 F-350 I up the K-1 to around 40%.

No modifications to either vehicle.

I've heard that a few ounces of xylol to a blend allows the Goldenrod water block filter to trap suspended water that would otherwise get past the filter. I'm skeptical of this. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Where can I buy Xylol? If I can find some, I'll put it in and see if I am draining any extra water out of my filter.
