mineral oil to save fuel
My curiousity got the best of me !!
I seen on ebay an ad to save fuel with a secret ingredient for $2.95. The additive is mineral oil!! The seller claims by adding one ounce per 10 gallons of fuel to tank and one ounce per quart of motor oil to motor he gets thirty percent better mileage. Wattaya think??? His test vehicle is a 80's ford ranger. I think i threw out three bucks. Steve

Hijack warning
I've only had wagons in the past. What is the volume of the sedan fuel tanks?

Adding mineral oil to diesel is an old trick commonly used by taxi and other commercial diesel vehicles drivers here, they swear by it, they feel it extends the life of the pump specially when the fuel used is dirty or adulterated, a common way of life here in fringe areas where taxis operate, I worry about long term effects like carbon build up, otherwise mineral oil can do no harm, rather they will lubricate the plungers, now with additive diesels being common here, its kind of redundant.

Pouring it into the fuel might not hurt anything....but pouring it into the engine oil would be a mighty dumb thing to do. It'd just contaminate the oil and kill the engine. So by all means do not add any to your engine oil!!
