In america, the auto manufacturers are being influenced by the Oil companies because our loose politics and lobbying industry says they can! In europe, the Thatchman society has the last say and the oil companies and auto makers are to follow suit. The Thatchman Society is the agency in england that measure particulate out put in automotive exhaust in milligrams per mile travelled.

10,000 or 20,000 miles is nothing to these cars.

Do you think we should be using an additive? If so, what should it be and how much should we use?

According to my engineer friends at the chrysler corporation whom I worked with for 16 years, Lucas upper cylinder lubricant added to the fuel in the amounts on the directions or roughly 1 gallon of vegetable oil to 10 gallons diesel should do it if your worried about your fuel! Just go into your supermarket, buy a jug of Mazola or whatever and pour it in first when you fill up with each 10 to 15 gallons! Easy as pie! My truck and both my Benz's love it! I've even used cooking oil past the pull date and just poured it in straight along with my Biodiesel! (You know, you exhaust will smell better too! Don't be suprised if the diesel rattle quiets down some too)

No additive is needed. I actually posed that question a few months ago and response I received was that the ULSD lubricity standards are better than the previous LSD standards and #1 diesel standards are.

If you live somewhere where it get below freezing often in the winter, an additive that gets rid of water in the fuel added in late fall is good.

Because we dont have mandated quality control like europe. We have companies like bayareabiofuel.com go out of business due to the lack of quality control and ended up with law suites due to crap fuel.

And we have homebrew biodiesel that can be risky.

I really should put this in my sig as i always refer to it but its worth the reading.
