BMW's hydrogen 7 series??

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6154212.stm

Check it out, I think its pretty cool! If BMW can put such a system in say a 3 series, and there are enough fueling stations to support it, I would buy one.

I like this solution because we get to keep the internal combustion engine, which is a very proven and mature design at this time. Not to mention they have more character than an electric car.

It does seem to be a step forward but the question is still, where does the hydrogen come from? It takes energy to extract hydrogen from water and if we get it from nat. gas, you have left over carbon to deal with.

If we got hydrogen exclusively from solar and wind power, and drove only hydrogen powered cars, I can only imagine our driving hours would go down sharply. Not necessarily a bad thing but not many people welcome that.
