The link says the Lagavulin is strong peat and iodine in flavor. I find the Laphroaig to be strong in peat and a slight hint of ocean air. The Ardbeg also sounds interesting. Don't know where my love of Laphroaig developed. I was a Tullamore Dew drinker for years. Only like light flavored Irish whiskeys. As best as I can figure My wife and I were diagnosed with a Soy allergy ( or food intolerance. ) The soy was giving me back pain and my bowels did not like it. I cut out the soy ( and my God it is everywhere) and I've lost 25 pounds, my blood pressure was 136/92. It dropped to 112/82 and improving. And I developed a like of single malt scotch along with my son. It's strange to be a father and your son grows up (23 now) and you go to whiskey and scotch tasting together. So I figured stopping the soy changed my whole system and I now can taste and appreciate the scotch. Dave But this has nothing to do with Fuel additives.

The Catalyst works way better, but will kill trap-Ox and catalytic converters (if present), thus the 85 version strips out a couple chemicals. I use the Catalyst + RL-2 ignition improver. They both are cetane boosters, but have different cleaning packages (the Catalyst is mostly a water dispersant / stabilizer, while the RL-2 is an injector cleaner and promotes an even flame front). I blend the two in a 1 gallon jug then fill with old SVO (not WVO) as available, or plain 'ol diesel, then mix 1/10 gallon per tankful of fuel. As I've been running this mix I've noticed a continual gradual improvement. From 2.5 cyl nailing down to none, from 2 cyl mis-firing fairly regularly down to one occasionally. -nB

If you want something else I can highly recommend any of the 15yo Aberlour's, though the double matured port/sherrey is best. The Glenmorainge Morgaux is bar none the single best scotch I've ever tasted, at $500+ per bottle though I can not recommend it in good concience (please note I did not buy a bottle, mearly a half ounce taste ![]() -nB

Talk to RedLine, they've been telling me for 8 years that there is no longer a difference, just the label and name.
The 85+ was originally formulated to be compatible with the trap-ox equipped Mercedes diesels. Somewhere in the early '90s they dropped the second formula, and made both products the same, both compatible with the trap-ox. I usually buy their products direct, cases at a time, my CAT takes several gallons per oil change, so I've developed a relationship with the management/founders over the years, feel that this is accurate information. They keep selling the 85+ label according to my sources because some Mercedes people don't know that the catalyst product is compatible.

I have seen little improvement with additives aside from keeping algae growth under control and a can of Moly Purge when needed.

I was having some fuel problems switching from fuel oil (don't tell!) to the new ULSD. My filters clogged and left me stranded a couple of times. Managed to get it going on the side of the road so all was not lost. The filter was full of little chunks of black crud.
Started adding LE (Lubrication Engineers) BTU and found it easier to start, less smoke, smoother idle and more power. I don't keep up with my fuel mileage so I don't know if it increased. Overall this stuff has been great, especially the easier starting during the cold spell we have had in the northeast.

I use powerservice cetane boost in the white bottle occasionally. A cetane booster makes the diesel fuel easier to ignite. This means the fuel starts burning sooner and it flattens out the pressure peak in the combustion cycle. This better approximates the ideal diesel cycle and improves efficiency. Using more cetane booster than is recommended is a waste as you can only reduce ignition time so much.
I also use a little ATF now and then in the tank as it cleans out the fuel system.

ATF actually causes coking when used too much.

Me neither. Never did purge my vehicle. I took the injectors out at 100K and had them cleaned. Only one had lower pop-off pressure and bad spray pattern. Not anymores tho.
