Well in all honesty, I think it says on the Lovecraft website that the guy has converted over 1000. How long do you guys think it will be before damage starts showing up widespread and these great cars become derelict?

It already has. Ask anyone in San Francisco that's been to the local junkyards.

One of the sacramento guys claim he has seen some MB diesels with veggie kits at the pick and pull over in sac. But i often visit that junkyard but dont
find any of them with kits or any signs of kits that have been installed/removed. Most look stock.

The sacramento pick and pull has the highest concentration of W123 diesels. The second highest concentration of MB diesels (all models included) is the all auto dismantlers in SF on quint st. Which my dad visits every week but hasnt seen any with veg kits either.

Just stock MB diesels with good engines and rotten bodies or vise versa. some months back they were selling a 190D 2.5T for $600 but the engine had no compression on 2 cylinders

Bought 1980 300: Now What? - 2007/02/26 10:17 Just got a pretty beat up 1980 300D. Can I get some advice as to what are the things I should replace right away? I usually replace all belts, radiator hoses and fluids when I buy a used auto, is there anything specific that I should look into on this car? It runs and shifts ok, a little bit of smoke when accelerating. Any advice on the best repair manual also. I will be converting it once I am sure it will run consistantly.

Re:Bought 1980 300: Now What? - 2007/02/27 14:27 You don't want to replace the transmission fluid, that can lead to slips. After giving it a basic tune-up, the best thing you can do, is get it on the freeway, and take a nice long trip. After a few hours, it will run like a new car.



I wonder if his "tune up" includes plugs wires and dist. cap

Make sure to sprinkle fairy dust *near* the left rear tire (don't ask why I know that) and also have a unicorn sit in the back seat, preferably the 3rd row seat, before any roadtrip intended to transform your car to that "fresh off the lot" feel once again.

why the negativity towards Lovecraft? they have done great conversions including my car, now yes it would be ideal to have a preheated fuel treatment for the benz's but i have heard of no cars from them that have failed

please provide proof of these claims. from what I know Brian is a great guy, has given me roadside assistance (not SVO/WVO related)

Because you just got conned out of a few hundred $$$ for a big filter.

Just wait until the problems start then see where he is with the road side assistance. It's happened to many people before you.

You have alot to learn about these engines. That kit will destroy the engine, it wont be instant but it wont take long either.

In my experiance, it only took 1 year to nearly ruin my engine in the 300SD. I had been one tanking it with a heated filter....similarly setup to your lovecraft. Its coolent heated but instead of being a big filter it was just the stock filter with copper coil wrapped around it.

To make a long story short, engine had lowered compression. Injectors coked causing misfires and rough idling on startup. Which was sorta fixed with new injectors. But the car lost its umph and now is sold.

Your facts for making the lovecraft kit great dont make any sense. Brian being a nice guy has nothing to do with the conversion being correctly built or installed on your car.

Having done great conversions? well i dont see whats so great about it?
The engine starts on cold wvo which makes the IP work harder to push the fuel causing pre-mature wear on the pump. The cold wvo will polymerize the cylinder walls, ip, and injectors, since the cold wvo wont atomize or burn completely causing damage and more wear.

Then why did you go with the kit? if you know that it is best to have the fuel up to temp in order for the engine to burn the oil completely then why did you dish out the cash on this tax evading moron's kit?

How many diesel cars did MB sell shere during the W123/W126/W210 days? I know the W123/W126, especially the 240D/300D/CD/TD/SD models were everywhere.

I just want to get a feel for how many of these cars are getting harmed...

"Lovecraft" reminds me of H.P. Lovecraft, ie: Horrorshow. Anybody who would drill out a factory filter in the process of installing an aftermarket unit needs to be drawn and quartered. You need to read these threads on Frybrid:
