Did I miss something or is he running vegetable oil and not biodiesel? I thank god I live in Arizona, Goldwater Country, because we were the first to promote and use biodiesel to clean up our polluted skies. Our Governor, Janet Napolitano does lots I hate but this isn't one of them! She is encouraging and promoting the use of biodiesel here in Phoenix and now the city is required to use a minimum 20% biodiesel mix in all city vehicles for our clean air act locally! In fact, we get blue sky license plates for doing so! With "Alt Fuel" stamps on the plates for every vehicle! Those using B100 get tax breaks for doing so. The Barry Goldwater libertarian spirit is alive and well here! Thanks Barry! You have no idea how much you are missed! Especially with 2008 coming! You were a real class act!

anybody remember the old TV show Benson? the last season it was on, the governor ran independent, and Benson had to work the budget, left several hundred thousand un-used, and he got chastised for not using it all and read the riot act about the budget getting reduced next year... he told them, GOOD, less money needed, less taxes collected...
too bad it was only a fantasy state...

Sadly very true, although I won't bite the hand that feeds me (some). We get a lot of municipal business this time of year because the Highway or Park & Rec departments have money they need to use by the end of the fiscal year or they won't get that money allocated for next year. That doesn't make a bit of sense, but I'm happy to help them spend that money. They'll spend right down to the nearest nickel.

In California, the California Department of Food and Agriculture, Meat and Poultry Inspection Branch, issues licenses to "transport inedible kitchen grease" for $100.00 license fee plus $75.00 for each vehicle used to transport. Licensees are required to carry $1,000,000 liability insurance or $2M for larger vehicle. This does not make it legal to take oil without permission, or to take oil from a container belonging to a renderer, nor does it address the legality or illegality of using wvo as fuel. Their mission is to prevent theft and improper disposal. Steve

I'd bet the renderers were behind that legislation. I would also bet it could easily be expanded beyond original intents. For instance, the question would arise is you have a two tank system for WVO, would that be considered transporting?
As to the improper disposal, unless their law addressed quantity of oil, any garbage truck servicing households could also be included and required to have an additional policy.
The actual underlying intent of this law is to prevent individuals from collecting WVO. It is cutting into the renderer's business and is expected to grow.
Ironically, WVO is not a hazmat material. There are some states that have a similar law, but it is directed toward the 'yellow' grease from grease traps, and does not include WVO. The above law might also be interpreted the same way since it uses the term 'grease' instead of 'vegetable oil'.
