WVO---A few questions

Im still somewhat of a noob wiht my Benz. I was considering running SVO to reduce fuel costs. I have a few questions-

1) Can SVO be blended into diesel right in the cars tank or should I add a second tank?

2) If I pour it in the tank, should I get a fuel heater?

3) What are the best ratio's of SVO to Diesel for different climates?

4) In warm climates, can it be run off SVO without problems?

5) How can I prep for the SVO?

6) Whats the reason for adding regular unleaded gas (RUG) to the SVO mix?

Someone please explain this to me, Im lost :dizzy2:

i have nog run SVO in my car but this is waht i can gather numbered to your questions.
1) the preferred method is a 2 tank heated system. this gets the SVO down to a viscocity close to diesel.
2) refer to number 1. another thing is i hear that SVO makes wax fall out of diesel, which inturn clogs things up.
3)Dunno
4)If the SVO is properly warmed up yes.
5)huh? prep what?
6) add rug to the SVO to lower the gelling temperature and to thin out the oil.
7) i know you don't have a 7 but do some searches with the search funtion.

1)YES/if you want to run 100% SVO

2)Only if you run a 2nd tank and want to run 100% SVO

3)I live in Western PA. I run a 50/50 mix of filtered WVO/diesel in the summer. In southern states you could probably run 50/50 year around.

4)With or without a heated 2nd tank?

5)It should be dewaterd and filtered well.

6)Good question. I am not a chemist but I think it thins out the WVO among other things.

I have an '85 300SD and in the summer I run upto 50/50 mix, WVO/Diesel fuel. I filter my oil through a pillowcase (go ahead laugh) and it is ready to run. I do not try to dewater and the oil is in cubes and straight out of the vat.

I'll take a crack at this.....

1- YES ABSOLUTELY - YOU CAN BLEND IN 1 TANK SVO OR GOOD FILTERED WVO& DIESEL OR RUG OR KERO OR WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE...? LOL.
2- DEPENDS WHERE YOU LIVE- IF IT GETS COLDER THAN LIKE 45DEG. F . GET A FRYBRID INJECTOR HEATER FOR STARTERS ...
3- DEPENDS ON THE OUTSIDE TEMP. & HOW MUCH HEATING YOU DO IN THE SYSTEM. COLDER = MORE DIESEL WARMER = LESS.
4- YES - 25,000 MILES ON STRAIGHT WVO IN SO. FLORIDA....
5- ???? TAKE A SHOWER, WEAR COLOGNE, & WASH YOUR BALLS...?
6- TO THIN OUT THE SVO OR WVO....NO MORE THAN 20% RUG!!!

I would go against one tanking or blending. Have you read the current thread?

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/181735-marvel-mystery-oil-too-strong-soak-injectors.html

Same thing happen to me even with coolent heaters. My engine suffered coked injectors and lowered comrpession as frankie's car seems to be suffering from.

Put in a proper 2-tank system and you wont be in risk.

I would be wary of taking advice from anyone here who doesn't know where you live. When you get around to putting that info in your profile let us know.

If your in a relatively warm climate you can blend and pour right into the tank. My blend is 1 gallon rug to 31/2-4 gallons WVO, cetane booster and biocide.

If it gets cold enough you may need a fuel heater. I think this is more trial and error. Depending on your blend.

If you have access to SVO go for it. You do not need any preperation to use SVO.

Adding RUG to the SVO lowers the viscosity to the same as diesel fuel. Which is why you don't need to heat it.
Blending with diesel fuel does not accomplish lowering the viscosity enough. If you don't want to put rug in your tank use kerosene.

Not true. Blending accomplishes the same thing.

This is a problem that CAN happen but rarely does. In my opinion it's an old wives tale told by people who don't know better.

Im located in New York, In Staten Island..I wouldnt try this in the winters, but possibly in the summer or spring....What about WVO...I know it has to be filtered but blending it in the tank, is it possible/feasible? What should I expect to happen if I do so?

1- The most important thing you do is get a source for good oil. Some place that uses 100% liquid oil. Not Hydrogenated! Preferably notused to deep fry any meats. Think Japanese or Tortila Chips.

2- It doesn't matter where you blend the oil w/ thinner. It will blend from driving , but if you blend outside & you will feel better than do it. ie: you can pour in 10 gallond of WVO then drive to the gas station & pump in 2 gallons of RUG & that will blend it up fine.

3- Get a 12volt facet fuel pump 5-7 PSI from a NAPA store. Good pump ( 45.00) & read how to hook on up.

Colorado is a lot differrent from New York.

Be careful about information from sites that want to sell you something. They'll tell you all kinds of crap.

I've never blended in the car but if Austin does it that's good enough for me.
What to expect?
Expect a perfectly running automobile!
