WVO still, how to put a petcock in a plastic container

I want to dump a bunch of WVO into a 30-50 gal plastic drum. How do I attach a petcock to the drum? I see lots of plastic valves but none flanged to go through a container wall. For that matter, how do you attach a brass petcock to a metal drum?

Is sched 40 PVC okay for ambient temp WVO (not bioD)? Will a PVC globe valve hold up to WVO or will it stick over time?

Thanks,
Sixto

drill a hole and use a plate or big washer on bothsides flexable plastic or soft alumium
tap threads in to the inside plate or use a nut
a little form a gasket around the hole between the petcock
and the plates
done
steel drum I would brase a brass or bronze petcock in place
or use the plates and form a gasket as above

the for sale rigs look to be PVC tubing so that should work
but I like bronze better
a boat seacock would be best and does come with a lip and it's own inside part also with a flang/lip made for a boat hull pass thru hole and are common in many sizes
cost is more then PVC

Thanks, nota. Looking up seacocks (gotta delete that from the search list before the kids get back), I found thru-hull connectors. Looks like a thru-hull connector will the do the job with a garden variety globe valve for a lot less than what seacocks cost. Plus I'd have to order on-line because I couldn't possibly walk into a store and ask for a seacock.

I'm sure I'll come off like a jerk with this post, but that's not my intent.

Here it goes anyway.

Why is this question on this forum? The question is better suited for a Veg oil dedicated site such as http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/frm/f/9751014871 or at the least in the WVO/BD thread at the top of this forum. Maybe even Open Discussion, but not in this forum.

Just my .02 cents, and I'm a fan of WVO. See my signature

That forum is for bioD and SVO. My intent is WVO. Completely different animal

There is a long-running debate about splintering an alternative fuel forum from the Diesel forum. I forget why there isn't enough momentum for a split.

A LOT of discussion on info-pop about WVO, both in the SVO section and the Solvent Blending section.

Just for laughs, post your question there and see how many responses you receive

SVO = plant, WVO = SVO + animal. It's an apples to chickens comparison

I should have said it was for a used engine oil collector

Have done this a couple of times using NSF 30 gal garbage cans to hold shave ice syrup for a friend.

I've used a spade drill bit, 1" pvc ball valve, pvc threaded nipple, orings (or rubber washers), metal washers and conduit nuts.

Drill the correct sized hole for the nipple the first time or you'll have problems. Don't put it too close to the bottom hwere curvature interfers with your seal; you can always tip it to empty the last gallon or two.

The thicker viscosity (WVO, or 150lb sugar and 24 gal H2O) helps in terms of leakage.

Much different animal!
WVO -> Waste Vegetable Oil
UEO -> Used Engine Oil
There is some discussion over on infopop about UEO also.

Anyway, I have some through wall spigots on my site. They may not work for you since you said it was for a "still". That makes me think of high temperatures.

http://www.fryerpower.com/store/page6.html Scroll down a bit to the spigots. I have them with buna seal rings or with viton o-rings.

Just for the record, I used a 1/2" CPVC valve on a cubie for a "tempoary" hookup through the cap. It disintegrated eventually (6 mo to a year), but I don't know how much was WVO and how much was UV. I have a PVC valve on a barrel right now that seems to be doing fine. At least I hope so, the barrel is on it's side! That's starting to worry me more and more, so I think I'll change my setup.
