has anyone used ACETONE in their mercedes diesel to improve MPG?

I've read a lot about this , and I wanted to know if anyone has done this on their mercedes diesels and could tell me what they have noticed.
I've read a lot about people commenting on drasitc improvements in MPG and also performance.. and these aren't from ads or anything these are from real people doing case studies on the subject etc.

Supposedly 2oz. of acetone in a diesel engine per 10gal of diesel fuel is optimal.

The problem i've read about is water getting into the fuel. The article I read suggets using a water separating filter in place of the spin off fuel filter. Does anone know where I can find a hi-quality water separating filter to use in my car (350sdl). Are there any other precautions needed to be taken when using acetone in a diesel mercedes?

Im particularly looking for people with first hand experience on the subject but welcome anybody who knows anything about the subject,

regards and thanks in advance!

It's pure snake-oil. I've been adding different amounts (From 0.5oz to 3.5oz) to my fuel for the last 8 months and it has not made ANY positive change to my MPG.

Don't waste your time.

My MPG goes up and down anywhere between 21.5mpg and 26mpg greatly depending on my type of driving and what mood I'm in. I always get B20 from Sapp Brothers so I know it's a consistent good quality fuel.

I just used the last 2.5oz of pure acetone so I'm pretty much done with this experiment. It's not worth buying another $12 bottle of it to continue. I'd rather start using the gray bottle of Power Service again, that stuff does have noticeable results.

Can we just agree not to perpetuate these acetone threads any more...just do a search here and you will see what B.S. it is and forget about it. Any difference anyone notes is purely placebo, plain and simple...

It's like oil and Diesel Secret threads. There is always going to be the newbie that comes in and posts "Is XXX good to use?" without searching.

Nothing we can do to stop it, it won't go away.

This is nothing more then alchemy. Acetone is an organic hydrocarbon like a lot of other chemicals out there. It will burn in a diesel engine. What else it will do in the process we do not know. Just like diesel fuel, gasoline, biodiesel, paint thinner and the list goes on, we know that acetone is a strong solvent. What affect will this have on the rubber and plastic parts in our fuel system? Will the acetone chemicaly react with any of the chemicals in the diesel fuel? Maybe. I sure as hell don't want to turn my fuel system into a chemistry lab with something that hasn't been tested. How do you know if the acetone won't react badly with any number of detergent and lubricant additives that the refiners add? God forbid it causes some of them to precipitate out as solids in the fuel system.

As Forced-Induction has said, this is snake oil. I wouldn't mess with this unless there was some chemistry of physics backing it up.

Here's what you do if it's so cold your diesel fuel gels. Smear some on some toast and stay inside until it warms up outside.

I've noticed no difference. MPG, performance, don't worry about it anymore.

Don't forget that acetone is acutely toxic, a known carcinogen, and it eats plastic. Do you really want to be putting that crap in your car, much less handling it on a regular basis??

isn't this the stuff that most women soak their nails in to remove nail polish?

Smile Mama says "foolish is as foolish does"

Actually, you could improve your mileage more by removing all the paint on your car. The 47 pounds weight savings alone would be much more effective than adding voodoo crap to your tank. Plus you won't have to replace all your hoses...or pay for tow trucks

You could also remove the trunk lid and the hood and all of the interior except for the driver's seat for even greater mileage gains. You could go so far as to add pork fat to your fuel if you don't mind working on the durned thing all the time.

Personally I enjoy driving mine more.

NOT RECOMMENDED! Acetone is a carcinogenic and a corrosive! It removes stuff like paint and varnish and who knows what it would do to your IP Seals! Not worth it! Your better off stretching your mileage pouring some old cooking oil in your diesel.
