1992 300D converted to run on WVO

Well, I finally made it.

The system is 100% custom: custom made 15 gal aluminum heated and insulated tank, HIH, motorized Pollack 6 way valve, solenoid 3 way for backflush.

It has run well on WVO for 500 miles so far.

FYI, I owned a 1996 Jetta TD prior to this MB and ran it on WVO for the last 3 years. So I have worked out the bugs with the VW before!

Here are a couple pictures attached below.

The system has the coolant lines run inside the cabin, underneath the floor carpet (I live in cold climate country, so I want to save has much heat as possible for winter driving).

I have re-routed the fuel line as follows (imagine an unmodified car running only on the original fuel tank)

The fuel now goes from tank, (fuel selector valve here), diesel fuel filter, lift pump, injection pump, injectors. So the diesel fuel filter is now filled by the vacuum of the lift pump rather than fuel being pushed into the filter by the lift pump.

I am unsure about the ability of the lift pump to give enough vacuum (it may be old)... I'll report on that later on.

While doing the job, I have used paint remover to redo some wood finishes in the climate controls and shifter/window switches panels and layed new layers of varnish.

Then I installed an SVO tank gage and drilled a hole for engine boost gage.

I will intall thermocouples later on, so I'll be able to monitor fuel temperature at the inlet of the IP.

Car runs good on both WVO and diesel, although I still have some issues with the EDS-EGR-Wastegate (I'll revive old posts on the matter to update on that).

Finally, I would like to thank Jay for his great web page on his own conversion of an identical car as mine.

Bye for now,

While I still don't personally approve of WVO/SVO use, that is a very professional looking conversion. Well done.

Others should follow your example.
