Who pays the fuel tax on hydrogen or electric vehicles?

I suggest eliminating all taxes on fuel (and the cost of collecting them) and take road maintenance out of general revenue.

What about people who only walk, ride the bus or work at home?

I suggest eliminating all taxes completely and going back to our hunter/gatherer days.

I do think this will become an issue as soon as there are a non-trivial amount of H2 and/or electric vehicles on the road. At that point, the WVO guys will just get dragged along for the ride.

I don't see fuel taxes going away anytime soon. As a matter of fact, increasing them significantly (like double or triple) would be one way to start to drive down consumption (essentially what is done in europe).

Forced,

People who ride the bus are already subsidized and people that work at home or walk get many goods delivered by trucks that use the roads. One way or another, everybody gets benefits of roads, so all should pay for them.

Hurrah for Illinois! The latest state to give individual (ie not distributers, suppliers, or sellers) WVO users tax-exempt status, passing unanimously in the state house and senate.

boo yah

That is good. That will end the confusion of "Am I legal?". At least for WVO. Pot or other drugs might be a different story.

That does not mean that it's appropriate for the state to give them a pass because they are more trouble than they are worth. You really have two choices; continue to "fly below the radar" or figure out how to pay the appropriate taxes. If the state does not have a mechanism in place, pushing them to establish something is the right thing to do. If they eventually decide the WVO should be tax exempt, that's fine too.
Craig, this is exactly what I am trying to do, I do not believe in "Don't ask, Don't tell." This is wrong both concerning WVO/BioDiesel and Military Service.
I do not want some gungho cop pulling me over because my exhaust smells different and searching my car and inconviencing me or my wife. This is the USA not some 3rd world country.
I grew up in europe during the 50's (Salzberg Austria) and I remember all the border crossing guards with automatic rifles they were in the streets in town as well. That is not the way I want to live.

Well I must have hit the nail on the head. Forced Induction must work at a rendering co in Denver, CO and that is why he is so against WVO. I wonder if he works days and all the time he spends on the internet during the day is coming out of his normal work week? Maybe someone should lookup rendering Co's in the Denver area and let his employer know how much time he spends on MB sites expounding his rhetoric.

Bluebird, I did send you an e-mail a while back. Just wanted you to know that, in case you didn't receive it.

P.S. Did you have any idea this thread would become a such a hotspot? Crazy, isn't it?

That is a troll post, straight out plain and simple. Get a life.

I work for the largest publicly owned trucking company in the United States, second largest trucking company overall. We haul dry and refrigerated goods, none of that waste junk.

You can't be. You see, only people working for the a rendering plant can be against private collectors of WVO. Just like with the oil companies. If you don't vehemently disagree with them, you must be working for them. Same with Wal*Mart.

That is their logic, so that means Swift must be secretly hauling waste oil and not telling anybody about it. Shhhh...

Some people just can't absorb into their brain the idea that a person can oppose one thing without supporting another.
