As some of you have seen in my earlier post, I left DC a little over a week ago. Drove to the MS Coast and then on to FT Polk, LA. Finished my work in Polk yesterday and headed back to DC. It's only about 150 miles to a interstate from there.

Anyway, I was pulled over in a speed trap in Who The Hell Knows Where, LA by a young cop for doing 60 in a 45. He had me get out of the car and move back to the rear. He then noticed the "Powered by Vegetable Oil" sticker on the window and asked what that was about. I explained and gave him a tour of the system.

He said "That's neater than hell, I'm not going to write you a ticket!". I smiled and thanked him and roared off. I'm in Knoxville, TN for the night and will be back in DC tomorrow. This SDL has got to be the best car I've ever owned! 80-85 mph with no probs and burning no oil except the veggie kind!

Perhaps the cop isnt the only one not "in the know" about fuel taxes.

Or maybe he knows everything about fuel taxes.

Could go either way.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it's a local cop's job to enforce State and Federal tax laws. That usually falls to the state cops and the feds.

You can go on all you want about WVO as fuel, but it's coming in one form or another. Maryland has even setup a web site encouraging the use of WVO and keeps a database on where it can be found. http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/apps/dpwt/solidwaste/veggie-oil-exchange/ As soon as the Tesla is out for around a year or so, I plan on buying one. What's your gripe going to be then?

So if somebody breaks a federal law, but not a local law, and a local deputy catches him/her they just let them go?

Give me a break! Local police have refused to enforce federal immigration laws for years! Do you think they even care about someone running a dual fuel system? It goes both ways. Ever see an FBI agent pull someone over for speeding?
