WVO, SVO and Biodiesel

Hey guys,

I have a 87 300 SDL...

Here my question...

Is there anyplace on the net that you guys know about that sells processed and filtered fryer oil that is ready to put into my car as opposed to doing all the filtering and stuff myself (I live in an apt, so not an option)....

Also how much is biodiesel running these days? My main goal is saving money considering Diesel prices have gone up 30-40 cents in a month!

Also can't I just buy a huge thing of Canola oil or something of that sort from costco, what type of kit would I need to buy to use this type of grocery store oil in my car?

This sounds like an option that even if I had to buy a kit would pay for itself in no time!

Let me know what you guys can help in this matter!

Thanks
Chris

Not that I'm aware of. However, there are a lot of scammers from Nigeria out there who would be happy to sell you AMAZINGLY cheap vegetable oil of all types.

Biodiesel prices depend on where you live. Some places they're cheaper, some places more expensive than D2.

Yes, but you'll have to mix with diesel to thin it out PLUS: it's more expensive that way than just buying diesel.

From what you've described so far, it will take quite a while to pay off your kit. Really, unless you have a very cheap (or free) supply of waste vegetable oil that you have the space and time to filter yourself, running on SVO/WVO is really not all that cheap.

Sorry if I was a killjoy but from your description SVO just may not be for you at this time. Given your situation, I don't think it will save you any money at all.

None unless you take the oils and make biodiesel out of them.

What do these SVO and WVO kits do that allow them to run in our cars? Mix diesel and oil together before it goes into the chamber?

WVO & SVO are heated before entering the IP that way the viscosity is lowered and can flow better. That is the only way to run it with out Damaging the IP

No, they set aside one tank for diesel and one tank for oil.

Your start up your engine on the diesel and run it on that until the veggie oil in the other tank gets hot enough (heated by either electric or engine coolant heat or both), then you switch to veggie oil. About 2 minutes before you arrive at your destination, you switch back to diesel and run a "purge" cycle before you shutdown.

So it's a great setup if you have a fairly lengthy commute. But if your commute is, say, 15 minutes or less, you may as well not bother.

The other (controversial) option is to use a one-tank setup. In this setup you simply use the stock tank and mix in various portions of diesel and veggie. However, because you do not have a car with a 617 or a 616, I do not recommend the one-tank option.

The OM603, 605 and 606's will run straight rapeseed/soya/cottonseed oil without a blend but would recommend Bosch Duraterms which overcome the cold start issues.

I have a 605 (multivalve, non turbo) which I tried before and after fitting Duraterms, big difference and during the day I dont switch back to diesel at all between stops.

You cant tell the difference but you have to let the light go out first (or at least I do).

Chris;
I think People fro Grease car Has A little kit for long trips. With this kit oyu can filter your oil on the Road If you live in an apartment Maybe you can use this little kit to use it as you find oil during the they and Keep it in the back of the car. I know your trunk is going may be to be a mess of oil nut at least this might work for you. Good Lock!!
