5% Biodiesel Blend coming to Ga. + S.C.

(This is either: Really,Really Good News for you...or an Alert.)

'Just got off the telephone with a gentleman in Houston with Colonial Oil.
'Starting May 15,2009 all the trucks exiting their terminals will have been
loaded with 5% Commercial grade Biodiesel/ULSD Blended Fuels.

"Enmark" is the name of their retail outlets.

Locally,(S.E. Georgia + S.W. South Carolina) they are the supplier to
everybody else in the #2D market.I do not know if they will offer the
Blended product to: BP,RD Shell,Exxon Mobil,Etc.,Etc.

Don't worry, be happy!

From what I understand 5% won't amount to much of a difference . . . you won't be able to tell the difference, I use to run 20% in my Sprinter, and it seemed the same to me . . .

Its good news for getting an alternatives to standard fuel out there. There is a new Safeway gas station here in the SF Bay area in Alameda that is selling b5 at the pump. I wish they had b20 or b99 though.

Curious if Safeway charges more for B5 vs D2?

All Bio I've come across in NorCal always sells at a premium. B99 in SJ is ~$4.00 gal right now while D2 is $2.40.

This is because the agricorps aren't receiving all the attention they should be like the gas comanies. Price of soy/corn hasn't gone down yet folx, they are milking the high price. I want to know where they are getting it from.

Where do I invest my money.

[edit] google knows all.

Apparently they ran a test 2 years ago. This is interesting. I want to know who's making the bio.

Bio"D" source.

winnmutt,

Thanks!

(SOYBEANS in 2007)

"IF" I'm comprehending that report correctly...
They "Pushed" a test batch from California to N.J. (5% SOY Bio"D"/LSD)
AND their first concern was pipeline contamination as pertains to Jet Fuel.
Secondary concern was product degradation in Transit.

My understanding after the 'Phone conversation Today was that the 5% Bio"D"
would not be transited by the Pipeline, but added at the Terminal during
disbursement to the Road Transport.

I'll ask.

Currently only Two local Commercial grade users Locally:
A "Tourista" urban bus company (They ain't saying where they get theirs)
Air National Guard depot at the Airport.[Probably national security concerns]

I'd l;ike to know where they are getting their bio from, who is actually making it. Colonial, AFAIK only transports and maybe refines.

Minnesota just went to B5 at every single pump statewide a week ago. They have plans to go to B20 by 2015.

All Diesel Sold In MN Is Now B5

Not every pump around here has bio, but there are certainly a fair share..some specifically state B11, while others say "a blend between 5 and 20%"

I'm 99% sure that it's all coming from the same distributor though, so most likely they are all 11%. I think the reason for this is because you get a tax break at 11% or higher...this way they can get their tax break and still charge us the same as D2

I really wish there was a place nearby that I could get a higher blend every now and then. I'm sure it will be even worse once I move back to the Chicago area.

Bio"D"

1.Palm Oil basestock (actual source proprietary)
[May have to Inquire of other sources]
2.Mixing of 5% Bio "D" and ULSD to take place at DispensingTerminal,
Lathrope Avenue.
3.All ULSD in area serviced by Colonial to contain 5% Bio"D".
[RD Shell,Exxon/Mobil,Texaco,Etc.,Etc.]

TMI on Fuels,You'll have to scroll down a ways.

I bet it will be a while before it get to the Midlands and the rest of SC. Spinx used to carry the B20, BioWillie blend, but as of a year or so ago that is no longer the case.

My '97 ran a little smoother and quieter with the B20 blend, but it's hard to find any decent biodiesel in the midlands area. I used to purchase B20 from the United Energy station in West Columbia, but the quality was hit or miss.
