Runninng on WVO question

I have a question about running my 81 240D and my 87 300SDL on WVO. I heard that I can run it without any conversions during the summer when it is warm out. Is that true??? I would only need to filter the oil. I would like to start this summer and see how that works, if you have any good suggestions please let me know.

DON'T USE WVO, USE BIODIESEL!!!!!!

WVO will ruin your motor whether or not you use a single or double tank conversion.

Biodiesel is good for the enviroment and good for your engine.

There certainly seems to be mixed opinions about this subject, there is evidence that suggests damage and some that suggests longer life span. Biodiesel can be used like regular diesel, although it does have a higher gel point. I trust a two-tank WVO system with properly filtered, dehydrated, low-acid content oil. I figure any damage caused by that oil is virtually insignificant and can be paid for by increased savings. I'd use biodiesel too, but have decided to leave that to a professional, I wouldn't trust my own home-brew, not to mention it seems like a PITA. Don't just dump oil into your diesel tank, even in warm weather.

You can find retail bio pumps online, from raw oil, I believe. I don't know of any WVO bio retail pumps.

there is a website that shows where all the biodiesel stations are, there might be one near you.

But don't use WVO....

You can run up to 25% without heaters. You will notice high mpgs from the slippery fuel.
However a 2 tank system is best with running wvo with heaters.I always blend in 30% diesel to wvo.You will need good filtering and and dewater your oil.I use 1 adult diaper in my 55 gal. drum,so any water absorbed from the air will be trapped.
My wvo use has fed my family for 2 years, using money I saved for groceries.
I do run one tank straight diesel once a month to burn off carbon.

I hesitate to jump into this discussion with all the strong opinions that precede me, but I have been running 70-80% wvo blends in my benz, ford, and izuzu for several years now in the summer with no problems.
I have the oil tested at 5k oil change and have found no change in viscosity or increased engine wear.
I would go back to your initial idea and just dump some vo in the tank. You will have no problems with it.
In the winter I run dino diesel or biodiesel, whatever is available.

I have also been running WVO blends for over 3 years now with no ill effects. My compression tests are above average.

People who will tell you that you will ruin your engine are going on personal belief not facts.

The only thing I will say is get a good source for oil. Preferably somewhere they don't fry meats, or very little. Don't go to McDonalds or Burger King.

Hogwash.

I've been filtering it and dumping it into my tank for 3 summers with no problems. I've got about 70+ gallons ready to process now.

If you are concerned, run a 50% blend.

I cut mine with 10% diesel or RUG.

You can use fast food oils,as long as you cold filter to remove animal fats.KFC oil smells the best,my friends say they can't follow me with out getting hungry.

De-watering is even more important than filtering. Running WVO without a heated two tank conversion WILL REDUCE THE LIFE of your engine. It may be a small reduction in life or it can lead to a very quick death. It depends on the climate, dewatering, oil source, drive length, % WVO etc.

A properly designed 2 tank system, switching over to WVO only on a warmed up engine and running properly processed oil will prolong the life of most engines.

Like most things, do it right and it works, do it wrong and it doesn't.
