I use nothing 95% of the time......no need. Runs fine. Maybe 2-3 times a year I'll add a bottle of Redline Diesel Catalyst (the stuff is $7 a bottle! ) to a fillup, mainly for its water-elimination properties. (one bottle will remove 3oz of water from the fuel system)
Otherwise I have no need for fuel additives....waste of money on a diesel....on a gasser is a different story. My 300E is like crack addict for injector cleaner.

Since my 2007, 3.0L OM642.993 diesel Sprinter registered mile 34, I've run between a 3% and 5% concentration of soy-based biodiesel.
Since odometer reading of 15,000 miles, I've been using about 8 ounces of this http://www.amalgamatedinc.com/tdr-s.aspx per 25 gallons of fuel (97 - 95% OTR number 2, 3-5% soy bio). I do this just to bump up the cetane. I bought a 5 gallon pale. Quite a few other 2007+ Sprinter owners have been plagued with EGR system fouling (cooler and valve). The rumor is that Daimler told Chrysler that North American fuel quality varied more than they'd expected. The H44 Recall was executed against every OM642.993 Sprinter effected nearly 40,000 vehicles in NAFTA region; pretty much the number of OM642-equipped Sprinters sold in the NAFTA region according to the sales numbers from Daimler. It extends the cleaning cycle of the EGR valve after shutdown from 20 seconds to 90. Regardless, at 20,400 miles, my Sprinter's been problem-free. I also fuel exclusively at commercial sites with high fuel turn over (new fuel every three or four days) and they use (and regularly change!) 25 micron particulate+water separators on their dispensing pumps. -Jon |

Power service (white - winter only). Run mostly on straight wvo. Over 40,000 on both the 300TD and the F250 and absolutely no problems. Some of the F250 and Cummins guys put a bottle of 2-stroke oil in their tank at fill up - supposedly helps with lubricity - I dunno. I've also heard of the tranny oil treatment - would the red color get you a fine if you got dipped?

And I thought I'd get flamed for using power service

I've used RedLine Diesel Fuel Catalyst in both the 300CD and 300SD since they were new. With both cars well over 200K, neither smokes, even on heavy acceleration.

My chemistry training would indicate this would ignite easier and perhaps run smoother. Acetone will also disperse water. However, acetone will drop the lubricity of the diesel fuel.

I'd heard that biodiesel might quiet it down, and I think B20 quiets the idle in the 240 a little. I can't tell any difference in the sound of the 300.

I have been running b100 in my 300sd for the past 4 tanks. I have been really happy with it. runs smooth and much more quiet. I get very little smoke and only at startup even with my ALDA turned all the way up! After one tank of B100 i did a Diesel Purge for good measure and replaced both filters. I had 2 injectors that were "hammering" and have since quit with the B100. eventually i am replacing injectors with monark nozzels and rebuilds/balanced injectors.

I use Power Service with every tank and about once every 4 to 6 weeks I dump in a bottle of tranny fluid.
