Any Northeasters running SVO/WVO in winter temps?

Just curious....

If yes, I'd be interested in reading what sort of setups you have going.

No, but I wouldn't mind trying some Bio-D if I could find some around here.

Running it in Florida But even here it was in the 20's last couple weeks. I know most cut theirs with Kerosene so it doesn't jell or regular diesel.

running it in Michigan- WVO in a dual tank system, greasecar kit with a big 36 plate heat exchanger added in. This morning was about 15 degrees, wasn't plugged in- took a record 8 miles to switch over to grease usually 2-3 in warm weather, 5 or so when it is about 30 out.

no problems at all so far, even though the wvo I keep in the garage freezes to slush around 30- 35 degrees, I wait for it to be arm enough to be pourable and pour slush in tank- by the time it get to lift pump it is 135 to 170 even in this cold weather.

running on 84 300d

You just wanted to have the first thread in the Alternative Fuels Forum huh!

I'm in the Northwest but we get subfreezing temps here all the time. I run a two tank system. My coolant heat is in the tank, fuel lines, and the fuel filter. I have electric heat in the form of a veg therm and injector line heaters. I have an aux fuel pump and a supply and return valve. One thing I've done to help combat the cold is I've wrapped my fuel and coolant lines under the car with insulation, and I partially block the radiator. I usually use my block heater to help get the temp up quicker, so I can switch over faster.

Here is a pic of my engine bay sans the injector line heaters.

What make of switchover valves are you using?

Where's the vegtherm located? If it's under the hood I'm not seeing it....

Thx

I'm a junkie for seeing underhood conversion pics to compare how people plumb it up. If you can manage one it would be great....

Cheers

I have the GreaseCar valves.
And the vegtherm is hiding unding the Midranger Inline coolant heater that I also forgot to mention. If you look closely you can see a hose coming out of the side of the midranger and looping back around to the vegtherm underneath.

(Our own forum?!)

I run WVO in my modified Frybrid rig down to -10F driving up and back skiing in Maine. I can maintain 175-180F fuel injection temperatures easily. No electric heat - all coolant fed.

When it gets really cold, I add 1.5 gallons of pump diesel to my 18 gallon WVO tank just as insurance.

I block my radiator with a piece of poster paper. I use the stock thermostat, and I keep the cabin fairly cold.
