Stealing WVO

The obligatory "gas prices are high" article.

Around here the renderers charge the restaurants to take the oil away, so the restaurants are happy to give it to me. 5 years running.

I consider this article to be weak journalism at best. $.18 per lb is over $1 per gallon. I highly doubt any renderer anywhere is paying a restaurant that.

The renderers buy it here, making it a lot harder to get. I heard a figure of like $.25 a gallon.

I guess if you ask the restaurant first its not theft.
I notice that its the rendering mob complaining not the resaurants.
What they once saw as theirs exclusively is no longer.

I just lost my main supply to a company called "Geo Green". I have been the only person who ever collected oil for this franchise in LA Ca. I went for my bi weekly pickup and was greeted by a locked container. My barrel was pushed aside. I have been collecting there for over 3 years. I called the owner twice and got no response. No heads up that this was happening. I have all the proper insurance and licenses from the state of Ca. Go to Geo Greens website. They will be making bio diesel from the oil to sell back to people like me.
Something is not kosher about this. I smell a rat. I went to my only other restaurant to collect the cubies and what do I see attached to the carton? A Geo Green flier stating that are in partnership with the oil supplier! So every restaurant that gets oil from this supplier gets advertising from this company. I've been told that Bio Diesel producers are getting a $1 per gallon subsidy from the feds and they are using that money to buy waste oil.
Watch out for your oil folks, this is going to be a bumpy ride!

The $1/gallon subsidy was in place, then Congress wrote that out. But I think it got put back last year.

Large "producers" were abusing the law intended to stimulate domestic bio-fuel production and dumping fuel. It was written that you got $1 per gallon for producing or blending biodiesel with domestic production. Some companies were buying South American bio-diesel at market rates (increased demand = higher global rates) then blending it with 1% US biodiesel and getting $1/gal for each gallon of the 99% foreign product from Congress , then selling it to Europe at market rates again. A tidy nearly $1/gal profit direct from Congress with nearly no increase in domestic production. The Europeans weren't happy.

0.17 a pound is being paid by Darling Int'l to the restaurants for their WVO. Buffalo NY.
