BioD and the 606.912 Fuel shutoff

Does anyone have any experience with the solenoid fuel shutoff on the later 606 and the use of bioD?

It seems to be sensitive to fuel. It errors when you add bio, and then it will error when you go back to d2.

Anyone have any thoughts on the root cause of this? Its a PITA as it sets off the CEL and mucks up the system.

Thanks!

Indeed, and I miss mine. But the .912 series has a an eletric solenoid type fule shutoff, and changing fuels freaks it out. I beleive same happpened when I went back to D2 in a 97.

UPDATE:

If you switch to B100, it is likely that the fuel shutoff will error. The engine will run on, and you do not hear that clickity-click after shutoff. It also throws a code and sets off the CEL. Not so bad in a 96, but it was hell int eh 97 as the trans is also electronic.

After a week or so of B100 driving, the solenoid is now working properly.

So pelase dont go buy a new one befiore you;ve given it some time to "adjust" tot he new fuel.

Now, I recall with the '97 going back to D2 also caused this. I only have two drums of B100 and will be using D2 at some point in the next month or so. I will report back whether the fuel change back to pump fuel causes the shutoff to malfunction, as I suspect it will.

All for now, but the takeaway is that these are very sensitive to fuel. But they do adjust. ????

Have not noticed any problems in my 1996 E300D (W210.020, OM606.912NA). No errors, no CEL, no codes thrown.

History:
0 to 248,000 miles: D2 (by the three POs)
-- purchase by me --
248,000 to 255,000 miles: mostly B99 with occasional D2
255,000 to 277,000 miles: mostly B20 with occasional D2

Well, it does throw a code if there is anything amiss upstream such as clogged fuel filters, I've discovered. So be aware of that before you start changing $150 parts. BTDT.

Not exactly in line with this issue, but I've done some reading about using biofuel in my '02 MB Sprinter (I think pretty much the same engine as some of the MBs we drive). I've run bio in it and, aside from the expected fuel filter clogging, it does fine. But I've read that my mpg will not be very good, due to some sensor getting confused about oxygen ratio in exhaust. Supposedly bio gives funny reading and computer mixes fuel too rich. I've not really paid attention to mpg, but was advised that with the more sophisticated electronics, that this may be a problem. Lots and lots of happy miles running bio in my old 300's.

I LOVE the Ben Franklin quote! John the CDI system you have on the Sprinter is a completely different animal than the 300's. Yet, some folks here have run B100 in their CDI's w/o issue.

Our brewers Ford 7.7 had some issue with a flow sensor or vane with the heavier B100.

Truth be known , bioD is a different animal than regular petrol D. Is anyone making bio D chipsets for the more modern controlled CDI engines?
