WD40 as additive...
 

Hi all,
A wee while ago I open the boot and there in it, a small bottle of WD40 was lurking at me...
I had a mad idea, see what would happen if I squirt some WD40 into the tank...
I filled up the beast with a little more then 4 litres of diesel, 40 litres of WWO and about a 5 seconds squirt of WD40...
All this in the tank, went to alot of the bumps we have here to mix it up, then the car started to be a little more responsive to the throttle? Notmuch, but defenitly there were some improvement.
The next day I took it for a ride on the highway. Prior the WD40 I had some hesitation under load for a period of time and defenitly hesitations at high revs, passing 4200.
Strangely, since the WD40 squirt, this has disseapered... There is no more hesitations... :confused: That was odd ...
Prior this I was thinking of doing the lift pump as the car was studdering, but now its all good? WD40 cured the studder :eek:
I still think I need to do the lift pump as its old, but this amazed me how a wee squirt of WD40 does the trick too.
Don't ask me how as I haven't a clue, but it certainly does something :)

You could try a bit of kerosene, WD40 is full of it.

Cheers. But I haven't got any kerosene and WD40 is widly available. Not sure if the other component in WD40 helped as well? I stick to WD40 then.
Actually I should try a tank without, see if the car reaction changes?

anything with more lubrication added to diesel fuel will help running and mpg.I've used 2 stroke oil,used oil,vegetable oil,even baby oil.

The original type A ATF with no additives and or 30W oil with no additives is also good for lubrication purposes.

WD 40 also has a small bit of turpentine-like spirits in it, which also adds to the cetane rating of the fuel.

This makes the fuel a little more ignitable under high pressure, because it reduces threshhold energy requirements by breaking some long-chain molecular bonds. That makes the combustion easier.

I am with you there to with the 2 stroke oil.
But the car was still studdering?

Baby oil? Isn't that mainly parafin? Mineral oil? Something you should never put on your skin, and they market it for babies... :eek:

hmmmmm, what do you think of adding some well filtered used ATF to the tank

some in the tank, probably cant hurt,,,,,,,,,,,,,I've heard of misting it over the turbo intake to clean the turbo and manifold, supposed to make a HUGE amount of smoke tho

apparently only old mineral ATF is good to clean the injectors, the new atf might create soot?

Are you talking about WD40 in the intake or ATF?

A little update, I changed the fule filter and filled up the tank to the rim, I usually only fil it up half, the filter didn't last long, got clogged very quickly, when I changed it there was a wee fatty type of film floating in it.
I can only guess that WD40 cleaned the whole system properly ( tank filed to the rim) and it end up in the filter.
This is good news.
New filter on and the car is back to normal and defenitly WD40 stoped the studdering :)
Oh, I souldn't really need more lubricant, I run on veg... Just to say.

I'mst told it's got a cleaning effect on the tank, sender, pump and injector guts, I can tell you for sure the engine runs smoother, even with only a litte in the tank,,,,,just got a those big pour thru sock filters, 5 micron and half micron

I wanna see how much stuff gets stuck in em :)

I could be wrong, but I recall hearing it's risky to spray any type of liquid into a spinning turbo, as it could cause damage to the impeller fins. I could be incorrect.

To clarify, the guy who told me said you dont spray it INTO the turbo, rather you mist it a good foot or so in front of, just close enough to get sucked in
