WVO filtering
Was helping a friend last evening with his WVO processing. For a basic system, I was mildly impressed with his process. Please tell me what you think as I would like to give him some educated feedback. He has been doing it this way for about a year so far with no major issues.
His process. Gather WVO in the cubies and let it settle for a few weeks. Take the pre-settled WVO and pour it through a homemade rough filter made from window screen into a large stainless steel pot. Heat the WVO to about 150 degrees to check for water. Filter the warm WVO through a 75 micron (absolute) filter into 5 gallon pails. Let filtered WVO cool and settle overnight Gravity filter the 75 micron filtered WVO through a 5 micron sock filter into a plastic 55 gallon drum. Drain off WVO through a tap inserted four inches from the bottom of the barrel when needed (he says this ensures he doesn't get any residual sediment) Add RUG to the drained off WVO for a 95% WVO/5% RUG mix Pour into cars second tank and use!

As few steps as possible is great. I used to heat and settle, and had a top heated upflow setup that sorta worked.
The cold upflow system is documented well on frybrid, and is said to scale up well. You put WVO in, clean dry wvo comes out the other end, and it's simple as a rock. I use quik n dri resin in a packed column. I used PVC, 5 gal bucket and bulkhead fittings. WVO goes through a sock filter into a 5 gal bucket and trickles through a packed column of coorga qnd. A PVC ball valve at the end keeps it slow so the VO has enough time to interact w/ the resin and be dried. This drips into a sock filter and barrel. I still have to clean out my old barrel pump.
