WMO in an OM603
Has anyone done it? What are your experiences? I currently run it in my 94 7.3L TD Ford. I'm looking at getting an 87 300D.

I like my 2005 E320 CDI as the best grease vehicle I have ever had. Could be a tie with my wife's Jeep Liberty CRD. 20 year old cars drive like old cars and run like old diesels and need repair they are 20 + years old. The conversion is just like your truck. "Getting it to run on grease is the easy part, it is the constant gathering and filtering that is the hard part."

I'm doing it, I think I recognize your screen name from oil burners. I'm JPhauler over there. My Cummins loves it, so here I am.
Just got the car, 86 300SDL. Probably have about 100 miles on it running my WMO blend. So far, excellent. Starts at 10* as soon as you touch the key. Very light haze at idle. No real noticeable difference in power. I'll report back after I get some more miles on it running the blend. |

I'm guessing he thought the title said WVO not WMO? I could be mistaken though. I heard of a guy running a 2011/2012 dodge cummins on a WMO blend so it's possible, but then follows the question of how long? I'm not brave enough to run a WMO mix in my common rail duramax. I'll stick to biodiesel in all my cars as long as I can continue getting WVO to make it

" I'm not brave enough to run a WMO mix in my common rail duramax." I believe the duracraps are the worst for WMO since they have an optical fuel sensor. Kinda hard to fool it into believing black is clear Anyway, let's plan on keeping this updated and maybe it can be the unofficial official OM603 WMO thread!

Anyway, the worst thing that can happen with WMO (properly done) is excessive coking on the injectors. It may also run hotter, which is my main concern in an om603.

I ran wmo in my 6.9 ford for 50k miles. that said i won't run it in my cummins because i actualy care about it. its free fuel if you don't care about the engine. but if you do then imo don't run it.

Can you give a better explanation than don't do it? 50k is a lot of miles and the fuel savings would have paid for the total value of the 6.9 and then some. So why not? What happened to it? If the engine was close to warn out, you really can't say that WMO is bad when your engine craps out.

Oh and I fixed the spelling for you since I'm sure you accidentally called it a duracrap I read the thread because I have two 603 cars and WMO does interest me, I'm curious to hear the opinions/experiences. I have some sources for WMO if I want it but I went down the biodiesel route awhile ago. Just saying, Not trying to cause trouble here

It was $13,700 that was 40k miles ago buy the time it is registered and taxes it is more like $15K.
I use WVO in it. WMO is really nasty, grease is just a little nasty. It was $1000 a year for insurance on a 1983 300 SD. I can not justify driving a car that old and having to fix it. My CDI has 193k miles and runs like a new car. Has great power, handles good, wicked brakes, easy to park, and 50 gallons of fuel capacity. Air blows cold and the radio works great. I am pretty sure running motor oil is real close to the same idea as running WVO. |

No worry about causing trouble. I'm probably the one at fault since sarcasm is hard to pass through text. Anyway, I do get frustrated with those who constantly bad talk WMO. Nobody gets it right the first time and I understand how scary it can be to run in an engine, trust me. I guess like wvo, svo, bio D, etc, it's not for everyone and it requires a lot of research, work, and criticism to get to where it can work well for you. You also need to know your car. I don't know 603's very well (at all, really). I just want one!

I have two, does that mean I have a left one and the "right one" ?
603's are similar to the earlier engines as far as fuel injection system goes. The 603 does have a fuel heater and fuel thermostat setup though so that can be a benefit to warm the fuel. Other than that you just have to read up on the possible head issues so when you go to buy a car you know what to look for. Check the head casting # and coolant overflow res for signs of oil in coolant (I don't think I have to tell you that's a bad thing haha). There's several threads so just do some reading and then you will know. The #14 head is the "bad apple" but if the coolant system has been kept up it could be fine. One of mine is a #14 and it has over 250k miles on it and runs great.
