What is the "nicest" complete WVO system for '99E300D
I've been away from WVO and biodiesel for a while, but have formerly run an '80 300SD and multiple W201's on different setups of WVO and/or biodiesel.
I have a friend who just bought a '99 E300D that needs some TLC. He's working the bugs out of the car right now, but wants to move into the WVO world, especially for some regular long commutes (weekend trips of 120 miles each way). The guy is a good mechanic (SAE certified) and a mechanical engineer by profession. I don't say that to impress, only to give some background. Anyway, since I have been away from the "scene" for a while, I'm looking for some advice to pass along to him. Of the commercially available 2-tank systems, which one(s) are top-of-the line in terms of build quality, electrical/electronic controls, and fitment into a '99E300D? Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Steve |
The best kits are home made. I have done that car the weak point is the factory fuel connections. It is a two switch system. Coolant heated tank I like custom made for $10 per gallon. Hose On Hose that I use all PEX line hose. I like 1/2 PEX for Coolant and 3/8 inch for fuel line. Push Lock fittings are the best for this and use Flare connections. The pushlocks need no hose clamp and work perfectly with the PEX line. You also need a FPHE Flat Plate Heat Exchanger. One three way electric switch works good get the kind with On/Off/ Momentary so that you physically have to hold the switch for flushing. I get semi filter and head from the local truck parts outlet. Wrap the filter in heater hose and install that into a container. I use a Cranberry Juice bottle with the top cut off on my 05 CDI Mercedes.
Here is a good tip for that model car--take the intake manifold off the engine. Figure out how to get ride of the EGR before you start the project. Disconnect and block off the EGR while you have the intake manifold off. If you need more help ask |

I have a 98 e300. I have been running b20 - b99 for 1.5 years now. don't know much mechanically. could you explain to me why you are saying the above quote? also, have you used the viton o-rings on the fuel line? i'm trying to order them but i need to match the sizes. Any idea how to find the sizes of the o-rings before i take the car apart? |

The EGR on almost any diesel builds up soot in the intake track. When you change the fuel to Veg Oil or even biodiesel it gets worse. EGR's work good on gas engines not on diesel.

There is a DIY post on the forum that will show you how to eliminate the EGR on the 98 and 99 E300D. You can also have your computer reprogrammed from Speedtuning to eliminate the EGR. I sent mine to Speedtuning to have it programmed out.

There is also a diode and resistor patch in the control wires that can be done to bypass the EGR healthy signal to the computer.
