85 300td w/ Greasecar kit FS

I need to sell this ASAP I posted 1 week ago and have not gotten a response. How far off am I on the price and anyone have suggestions to get it sold.

Well, without knowing the general condition of the car, maintenance practices and the quality of WVO used, I would say you are probably about $2000 high. OF course that is my personal opinion. Others may chime in

Remove the WVO kit and all traces of it. (Sell the kit later.) Do not bring up the topic of WVO unless the buyer does first.

If you want $5000 for it, fix all the little items you mentioned and make sure everything works as it came from the factory.

As it sits, with the WVO system installed, list it for $3000, take the first $2500.

Lots of luck

I live about 60 miles from you and have bought two 300sd's in the last week for 1000 dollars each, check Fayetteville Ar, craigslist nice ones for sale less than 2000. I am in the process of installing wvo setup on my new 82 sadly my garage is full. I have another na 240 I bought for scrap price that I will be moving into the next available space.

That's disappointing

Thanks for the feedback. Well that's a bummer. I paid 4000 for it. Put 1500 into for the kit and install. I have put at least 1500 into it in repairs, and was quoted another 800 for the current repairs that I was not comfortable doing myself, the little stuff I can handle. I have already bought another vehicle after talking to a guy who told me that he sells these cars already converted for 8k all day long. Now that I am realizing that that isn't the case and I probably paid too much for the car, I am reconsidering the options. Does anyone really think it would be worth my time and money to fix all of this and try to sell car and kit separate? Or just take what I can get and move on?

I am actually working out in Washington state right now and is where I was trying to sell it. I leave in a few weeks to go back to Missouri where I can get work done on it cheaper, but am concerned about driving it with the bad motor mounts.

You should be concerned about driving it with bad motor mounts, on those cars with the turbo, the impact is greater, which is why the motor mounts are made of a different material hardness than my 240D.

The motor and tranny mounts are a few hours job as long as you don't strip any allen bolts. If you have two jack stands, a floor jack, and a block of wood you can do it. It will cost you $50 in parts for two Lemforder or Phoenix brand mounts (only buy those).

Motor Mount Replacement Guide

The transmission mount is a similar job, instead of lifting the engine you lift the transmission by its pan. A few bolts and it's swapped. You can probably get by with a Febi brand mount.

The door locks may be an easy fix...see this diagnosis guide. You can probably get them fixed yourself for under $100 including the price of a vacuum pump/gauge.

Send the cruise control amp to JamesDean on this forum (look him up and PM him for details). He can fix it for under $100.

If you can get the stuck door open, and the door panel off (see guide below) you can then replace the check strap. It's just a few bolts. You can use a front door style check strap, they are available on here aftermarket for under $20.

The transmission shift bushings are cheap but a pain to replace with a special tool. Search google for W123 shift bushing special tool to find solutions. Again you can do this for under $50 probably including the tool.

If you want to get more of your money back, fix the above, pull the greasecar setup and sell it separately, and then you can sell the wagon for more since it will have a much smaller list of issues.

Try selling it in a different market. Like one where grease is more readily available. Seattle is tight and there are a lot of hippy freaky type people that want an ecofriendly car but are realizing there is not any grease. Take a loss is probably. If your burned 800 gallons of grease and save $3 per gallon on the cost of fuel you are up $2400. And you should take that into consideration as well as the learning process. I am assuming you got a grease truck. I have put 50k miles on my Mercedes and saved about $4 per gallon on fuel. I figure I am up at least $6000 is saved money on just that car.
