Selling my greaser

I've put my 81 300D on the "cars for sale" section of this forum if anyone is interested. It has either a head gasket leak, or maybe, if you listen to some of the guys on the diesel forum, a broken spring in an injector. I use a one tank system, filtered WVO to 5-10 microns, straight in the tank. (No water allowed). Cut it with a few gallons of diesel or kero in the sub 20* winter months. Ran like a champ for 7 years, alternating at will on WVO and diesel. Lots of new parts, regularly maintained, OEM parts from Auto Haus Az, oil and tranny fluid and filters changed faithfully, valves adjusted every 10k. Also, for anyone on peachparts forum, I'll have it towed up to 100 miles on my AAA. Check out the ad. I'll have recent pics tomorrow. Thanks. Lee

A engine thats been run on a one tank system,is not a car that would sale good. You never mentioned heaters for fuel.I made the mistake of using my stock tank for wvo.I've had tank off and cleaned, and its been 4 years now changing and cleaning primary filter every 200 miles. The metal tank can react with animal fats.

Why not buy junkyard tank & replace supply & return lines? Or just replace supply and return lines, they are probably still poly'd up. 3/16" fuel hose, hang it off the existing hard lines w/ zip ties.

oldsinner- I think you're wrong! Do you actually have any personal experience with this specific system?? I've had two different vehicles that I've used this way and never had any problems with anything concerning the tank, lines etc. Plus, I know a couple other guys who use the same system without problems. Per the heaters (???), they aren't necessary. It gets to 0* and single digits often here in Missouri, and like I said, if you cut it with diesel or kerosene, it works just fine. I also mentioned that I filter it with a 5 micron filter, which is twice the filtering that car filters use, and IF there's any "animal fat", as you mention, it settles to the bottom of the cubies before I ever filter it, and gets discarded before it can ever get to the filtering process. Personally, I think people who go overboard with de-watering devices (water also settles-just don't put it through your filters, or smarter yet, don't get oil that people allow water to be mixed into), slingers, yada, yada, are making a mountain out of a mole hill. I really don't understand the "bio-diesel" mentality of over-priced machines and additives when vegetable oil is all it needs, (except somebody is making a ton selling them).
I've never had a problem with this system. If you choose to use greasecar.com's (or any other brand) system, that's your prerogative. But until you've tried this system, you really don't know what you're talking about. About every thousand miles or so, I dump some Lucas fuel injector cleaner in the tank, and it works fine. But my oil is so clean before I put it in the tank, it looks like it just came out of a new, unused bottle of Wesson.
I think you worry too much. Maybe someone has told you stories to get you to use their system or something. This system works great, and a lot of people I know also like it. If you don't want to buy the car, don't. But don't bad-mouth it if you've never tried it or personally had a problem from it. By doing that, you're screwing with my ability to sell the car because someone might believe what you're only assuming.

My 91 350SDL has 318k miles. We started running blends in the stock tank without any modifications at around 180k miles. At around 225k miles, I installed a single tank kit and ran nothing but vegetable oil all summer and blended in the winter months (I live in a relatively warm climate). My daughter drove the car to college for two years this way. A part on my plantdrive kit broke that I could not find or fabricate, so I went back to diesel and blending for a while with no kit. About 6 months ago I installed a new single tank kit from Mercedes source and injector line heaters from fatty wagon. So now I'm back to running straight veggie oil again, until the coldest months, when I will blend. I've never even had the screen out of my tank, even though I'm sure it needs cleaning (on my to do list). The key is clean oil and the type of oil you use. I've always had peanut, soy or canola oil. I have an advantage because I own a restaurant so I can control and know what I'm getting. I don't filter it, but I settle it twice for weeks at a time. A filter on my car last for months. I drive the car approximately 100 miles each day, its my daily driver.
I understand that this doesn't work for everyone, but it does work for some. I think the key is clean oil and using common sense.
Good luck with your sale. It sounds like this has been a great car for you.
