Recycled Motor Oil Fuel?! Time and equipment costs make this idea prohibitively expensive for consumers and possibly counter-productive for commercial interests but I can see some viability for government subsidized programs. Nonetheless this article is an interesting and informative read. There's an awful lot of waste engine oil available and frankly, I have no idea what happens with it after I bring it to the local auto parts store to dispose of.

alot of waste oil is used as bunker fuel in ships,and tugboats. I have blended and it stinks,but i have a 120 gals. stored in case of nuclear war to get my family to central america.Also plenty of iodine.

Ships, shop heaters, recycled in to non-detergent oil, etc. I have blended it with diesel fuel, filtered it through a filter/water separator like you will see on a big truck, and dumped it in to the tank/. Been doing it for years, no problems. 82 240d, 85 300d, 97 F250. They all run fine on it. The tree huggers may have other thoughts, but it is recycling a waste locally which also helps in my eyes.

Just make sure your eyes aren't anywhere behind your car.

In time of war,or off road, it would be fine.But I would not idle at the school grounds to pick up my child.

I think that depends on how well you treat it.


The late great Doug Jenner, a local guy who passed on several years ago, used multiple filters to clean his fuel. He never added gasoline, but he did add kerosene. I think he also put a little zinc or additive from the truck stop in his batches, which were always 55 gallons at a time.


The fuel was not 100% clear, but it certainly did not look like used motor oil right out of the pan. It ran well in his car, which was an Olds 98 diesel from the late 70s-early 80s. He estimated that his costs made the fuel around $1.35, not including labor. But he was retired and said that the filtering set-up pretty much ran itself on a timer.


He would re-filter the contents three or four times with a set of 5 micron filters after he had cleaned the oil using a 24 micron filter set-up he had.


His son took the stuff and left the state a few years ago so I don't know current status.

Well, I have no kids so I am ok there and my vehicles spend most of their time on the highway. If you blend it say 50/50 and filter it, then only a couple gallons of that per tankfull and fill up on top of that, it gets pretty diluted and you don't "roll coal". Very little smoke from any of the vehicles when running on it. It does smell a little stronger at times but there are still mosquitoes in my neck of the woods in the summer so it must not be all bad...right?

HEHE! I love it. I was thinking the other day that burning waste oil in small dilute ratios could quite possibly be a more responsible solution(excluding any negative mechanical ramifications) from an environmental perspective.

To be honest, I think mosquitoes have potential for public enemy number and #1 on the CDC's most wanted list.

As for myself, I despise cold climates and contribute generously to the global warming foundation.

I've burnt every oil in my 617,baby oil,mineral,peppermint,makes nice exhaust.what ever I found.

Not biofuel, its is usually Petroleum distillate, around mineral spirits, between gasoline and diesel with a dash of the citronella oil that the skeeters avoid.

Beware of getting caught using untaxed fuel for on road use.

Have not drove it sine last dec.,I use it only for snow.I will sell her next year.
