Selling 2006 E320 CDI WVO. $6000

I really good conversion. With 38 gallon custom Aluminum tank in the trunk. Three Greasecar Valves Two SV100 One SV250. The diesel is looped while running grease. It uses a WVO Design Fuel pump that was new this year and cost $500. Has a FPHE and upsidedown Semi truck filter mounted under the headlight for easy filter changes. One switch mounted on the drivers seat. Also have a water injection system that I have not had time to install yet. Maybe next weekend.

Car has no rust could use a good cleaning, v rip in the back seat about 2 inches long. Has a little blowby and uses a quart of oil every 800 miles at highway speed and 2000 miles around town. Navigation needs disc. Needs a new SOS antenna, Has sunroof and power everything auto lights and windows.
A great car for the money. Has 230k miles and counting

I can deliver it almost anywhere in the country for a plane ticket back and a little spending money. I like to drive

Robert

If you send me a private message I will e-mail you pictures and you can post them otherwise it is a fat chance that I can post pictures. It is really not a bad car considering most of these are going for more than $10k and some have $20k asking price.

I probably did not mention that the A/C blows cold and the heat works great so do the heated seats. This model is so far and away better then any model before it. My 1985 turbo diesel, way harder to work on and slow. The 1999 E300 turbo diesel was fast, but not like this and that thing and seemed outdated and it was only 5 years old. This 05 is ten and still feels, looks and works like a modern car.

For what its worth, your car doesn't need a new SOS antenna.

The network that version of SOS works on is dead so the car cannot connect. If you go to the dealer they can remove the SOS from the fiber optic loop and it should turn off the warning that comes on whenever you start the car.

My CDI and my friends C32 did it.

I didn't think a CDI engine could handle WVO only the indirect injection engines.

CDI

I do not find that true as my wifes Jeep Liberty has 140k grease miles of it 205k total miles and it runs great. Jeep CRD are not really that reliable either which makes it even more shocking.

Nobody here is going to buy my Mercedes, it runs funny now because I have been abusing it for so long. I did short flushes a lot and I let it run 10 hours a day and only go 150 miles. It spends a lot of time idling and under full throttle, But it is still a good car I am hoping that after I install the water injection system it will clean up the intake and run better. (But it turns out that is a pain to install, Maybe this weekend.)

For those interested you may want to go into a little more detail on the WVO that you have been using. Is it straight from a restaurant holding tank (I would think not), settled a few days, filtered through an old t-shirt, or had been gone through a bowl type centrifuge, or full bio diesel trans ester process. How many of those miles on the WVO. Is the oil use out the tail pipe, or leaks. I would need to know those answers before considering it.

Someone here may buy it. To my previous post. Explain runs funny. What is a short flush? why was it run for ten hours to go 150 miles, which is not good for a diesel they like a load on them.

CDIs are known to clog up the EGR.

I would think with 230k if you haven't cleaned the EGR and have been running WVO your intake manifold looks like a tar pit.

I'll bet if you cleaned out the intake manifold and the EGR valve and cooler it would run a ton better.

I am curious to know how running VO could have anything to do with the intake.

Never run it, but you guys all ***** about carbon issues.

If you don't wind up with some carbon in the intake, what good is water injection going to do?

I think of carbon as a hardened deposit of impurities in the fuel that did not burn in combustion and got baked on hard.
I think of soot as the air borne particles that exited the cylinder via the exhaust.

Diesels end up with soot in the intake from exhaust gas recirculation.
Hard deposits of carbon are found in the cylinder, on the walls above the rings reach, on the top of the piston, on the head, and in the ring grooves.

Carbon deposits from burning VO, above and beyond normal amounts from burning diesel, mostly happen from burning it too cold and from fuel that is not clean enough.

So based on my understanding of the term "carbon", I don't think any carbon deposits can occur in the intake.
And, soot deposits in the intake have nothing to do with burning VO. VO actually produces less soot than diesel. It is a cleaner fuel as far as particulates in the exhaust are concerned.

Water injection will do nothing for soot in the intake, other make your soot wet for a while.
Water injection can, in some cases, clean the carbon deposits from the cylinder and the piston rings, freeing up stuck rings. Sometimes, not always.
It is the extremely violent conversion of the water from liquid to gas that scrubs the carbon off the metal surfaces.

So, if the oil consumption and poor running of the OP's car is caused by carbon impacted piston rings, water injection may help.
If it is soot in the EGR system, the only way I know if dealing with it is to physically remove it.

I have the best grease in the south Florida area, or so I have been told. I get mine from a high end burger shop that has a hard time cooking the fries if it get to old. And they have three fryers. I pour it into a 55 gallon drum through a Chinois (fine mess china cap) strainer. Then I heat it for 4-6 hours some times overnight. Then it get process with a bowl type centrifuge which takes one to four hours it go into the catch buckets depending on how hot it is. Then I pump on a timer pumps it back into the top bucket and it get processed again usually over night or all day that works out to be 4 or 5 times passing though the single pass centrifuge. Then I it goes back in the top bucket and a lever is switched and the pump is turned off and it goes to the transfer bucket. After that it is transferred to a ready to go 200 gallon bin with a pump to dispense into cars and trucks.

I installed the Water injection system. It was not really that easy but it is in and seems to be working. I have only used water at this point I have methanol to add from old biodiesel supplies(long story but it would be nice to use it up.)

My EGR has been blocked off with a Stainless Steel Plate for the last 60K miles. And an EGR emulator was required to stop it from going into limp mode. I disconnected the EGR cooler also it is now the coolant that goes to the Veg system.

I think I am burning so much oil because of carbon in the cylinder and on the rings. It is going out the tailpipe. Thursday I checked the gauge at the end of the day and I drove 320 miles in 15 hours. The problem is I deliver food in the day and I think turning it on and off all the time was bad so I just leave it running all day long, even If I am working inside the restaurant for 30 minutes. Short Flushes are when stop somewhere and flush for ten seconds and the lest it run for ten seconds at idle. When you come back in 30 minutes to 4 hours it starts fine. But maybe not? I have basically been running grease since 160k miles. I think I have saved $8-10K in fuel costs over the last 3+ years.

Which begs the question If the car cost $15k and it is now worth $5k was it even worth it to run grease. Well yes because even in perfect condition it would only be worth $6-9K maybe less.

Tomorrow I am adding methanol to the water injection system and taking it out to the empty road and going 120 MPH and see if it starts to clean it.

In my ideal world I will get my wife an electric car that she can plug in at work in the parking garage and I will take her Jeep Liberty CRD WVO and then when I deliver luggage at night I will have more space. It will be a win win except I still have to sell the black Mercedes.

When you get toward the bottom of a tank of diesel, take a sample of your fuel.
Disconnect the fuel line that goes to the high pressure pump and have the lift pump fill a tall narrow clear bottle.
Let it settle for a while and see what you have.
If your purge cycles have been short, there may be a lot of VO in your diesel tank. Blending in Florida should be just fine up to a point. I don't know what that point is, but if you have almost all VO in your diesel tank, that could be a problem. Then you may want to consider adjusting your purge system.

You might want to do this on your jeep too, just so you know what's going on with it.

I will start a separate thread on CDI purge cycles.

water injection

I installed the water injection system and for the whole first day I raced around town full throttle. Blowing black smoke everywhere I went. I left the vacuum set at the factory 10 psi setting for the switch. The second day was more entertaining as it stopped blowing black smoke. Third day the methanol eat the glue on the metal fitting and spilled all of the 50/50 meth/water mix in my trunk an out the hole in the bottom. I fixed that with a better connection and bolted everything down know that it was working right. I add a splash of antifreeze to my 50/50 water meth mix so that it is green and I can see it in the supply lines. Not sure if I can tell if it has more power but it is burning less oil maybe it is working slowly. It is still fun to race around town except I got my first ticket in 15 years. Bummer.
