Any growers here?
I am looking at retirement properties and the one place I'm looking to buy may offer an additional 3 acres next door. I have looked at possibly buying it to grow something which I may press and mix with regular diesel, as a first step for getting into the oil mix bio fuels effort.
Mixing the oil with regular diesel spares me the punitive 22% Michigan tax on biodiesel. I will soon have the ability to filter up to 16 gallons per hour at a 5 micron (real) level using two pumps and filter sets taken off a US Navy Destroyer where they operated for that purpose. I can use this system to clean all the waste oil and ATF which I decide to filter and mix with my regular diesel fuel. But that supply would run out very soon. So I have to grow my own stock. I know Monsanto has a monopoly on soybean seeds, and soybeans don't yield a super high amount of oil, possibly 40 gallons per acre. Even sunflower seeds beat that, as does Chinese tallow. I'm looking to find something that will grow in Michigan and can be harvested yearly and yield me at least 100 gallons of oil per acre. Obviously if it's wild, like free range soybean seeds or sunflower seeds, this would be best. Anyone have real experience with this? I have seen amazing yields by jatropha beans in Central America, but the climate here will not cooperate. 200 gallons of oil per acre. Pretty darn good, even before filtration. Your thoughts please.

Grow a more illicit crop and then buy as much diesel as your heart desires!
If you blended hemp oil with your diesel, would the exhaust smell dank? Imagine the confusion that would cause!

Rapeseed(Canola) has decent yields, will grow in your area and has a relatively low gel point(for veg oils that is). Doesn't need much in the way of pesticides/fungus control like soy does. I believe Johnny's seeds sells the seed in a small enough quantity(1 lb) for you to do a small plot test.
