1967 200d WMO 80/20 RUG. GENERATOR GOVORNOR?

I'm looking at picking up a wrecked 67 200d, need parts for a couple others finnies I have. Owner says it's a 5 bearing motor, I'm not super familiar with the early diesels, more on the 220,230,250,280 gassers. I know the om 617 will run happily on cleaned wmo 80/20 so I figure this will. I'm wondering how you would go about converting a throttled vehicle diesel to running at a fixed speed to power a generator. I've got a big Onan propane powered 3 phase generator set with a 20 hp I believe off the top of my head. I can get basically all I can burn wmo and centrifuge it so, free shop power! Anyone know enough to chime in on this? Maybe kill a couple cylinders and use them to fill my massive compressor bank?

Probably an OM621. There will be industrial versions of those engines with the right governor, or it might be a matter of adapting a similar IP off something else

Yup. 0m621/III. Five bearing 54 hp 87 ft/lb. That would run massive Dynamo from a generator and the 3 cyl compressor head I have with a beat insanely large electric motor sitting hooked up outside my shop. That would be awesome.

HP at RPM is important. The generator will be 1800 or 3600RPM depending on whether it is a 4-pole or 2-pole design. You need to know the HP of the engine at that speed, not rated HP of the engine. You may find that it's less than that of the propane engine that's currently fitted. Onans used air-cooled 2.4L 4 bangers for years that made a whopping 21HP at 1800 RPM. Engine was rated at 52HP, but around 4500RPM.

You need 2HP per KW of generator capacity if you expect to start and pull rated load.

This Onan is a twin I'm pretty sure. I bought it for the proposed free methane line were getting being abuted to a landfill. It's got a bad starter and I haven't messed with it too much.

You missed the point of my post.....how many KW, how many pole (rated RPM) is the generator end? It matters if you expect your electric devices to be happy and expect the engine to pull it.

Yes I'm not sure of that. I haven't looked closely at it. How would I tell how many poles? I was just saying I don't see any reason a 2 ltr 4 cyl diesel is making less power that an Onan twin. According to this it's making peak hp at 4200. Torque at 2400. So I think it would be capable and suitable if I can figure out how to set it up on a fixed speed govornor.

Issue is no idea on the governor setup. The rest I can figure out.
