Running whatever fuel I please on the road.

This just came to me the other day while figuring out my torque converter centrifuge for waste oil cleaning for my spray burner. There's no reason that it's required to run fuel that road tax has been paid on anymore, the Tesla and leaf crowd has fixed that. They are not paying any road tax on the electricity used to fuel their cars. Correct?

LOL yeah good luck with that theory. I'm sure the cops will love to hear all about it as you vehicle gets impounded after they dip your tank.

Well that may be true, but are you going to tell me that no one driving electric cars has to pay road tax but I do? I'm pretty sure that will hold water in a court case.

Likelihood of getting dipped in a 300sd is pretty low also. And just for general knowledge pink eye is uv sensitive and goes away/changes to stale gas color left in the sun.

If you are burning WMO your tank will get dipped. Everyone can smell that garbage for miles. If you want to pursue this issue in court and you have a limitless legal fund, go for it.

20 states currently require EVs to pay road tax on top of the normal registration fee. Another 15 states are working on legislation to add a yearly EV road tax or by the mile usage fee for EVs.

Interesting stuff I've read on this now. I imagine I can pay 50-75$ to the right agency and run whatever without a problem. I've never run wmo in a diesel so I don't know what it smells like. All I know is I live in Delaware and I've never even heard of someone getting dipped. The car is antique tagged also and is exempt from all future inspection.

I will go you one better - I have never heard the term "dipped" before in regard to a fuel tank.

What are the chances of your vehicles tank getting dipped, on a rainy day around here no speed limit, they don't want to get out in the rain, let alone dip something in your tank that may get on their hands.. Maybe by the State Police if billowing clouds of smoke. Probably 50% of law enforcement officers have no idea that diesels will run on WMO, and would be looking for red colored fuel only.

If it comes out black what would they be able to say? You just play dumb and say "OMG! What have they been selling me!?" I would guess if you do plan on running non road diesel of any sort an aux tank not in plain site would be a good idea. I wonder what local laws are on any of this, like search and siezure related laws. Would they need a warrant to dip your tank as they need with a search if you say no? What about looking for another tank in your trunk? All thoughts I'll probably never have to worry about but I am curious.
