So I just scored an incredible source of oil. It's cutting oil from a very high end machining production facility. I'm talking a lot and probably a fairly steady supply. A Nice clean 275 tote and more. They say it's 80% cutting oil and 20% mineral spirits. It's clean and thin as or maybe thinner than diesel. Looks like slightly turned bad gas color, light pissy I'll call it, not fully yellow/orangey. It's definitely been filtered out of thier machine but I'll still run it through the centrifuge I'm picking up tomorrow to be safe for the random chunk of metal that could be lurking. I put a sample in the freezer before I got in bed. I did a quick flash test in a stainless pan and it lit fairly easy with a torch but not till it got a little heat in it, not like gas igniting. Are there any simple tests I can do for like specific gravity or anything to know if it's too volatile and should be cut with wmo? I've read a little on the mineral spirits being similar to old gas(and good for wmo80) in the fact that it's long chain hydrocarbons and old gas has the short chain hydros evaporated off. I could be backwards there though. I'm going to have an EGT in my bus for sure(dt360 International) and will probably throw one in my 300sd as well, as I plan to mess around with some things like water meth and propane injection.

I am curious; how does Diesel Fuel do on the Pan Test?

A diesel runs fine on kerosene just uses a little more of it less btu per gallon lubrication is main thing to be concerned

I need to retest it with actual diesel. I tested it against some red diesel, or heating oil, but it had been in a tank for a long time and had some algae and it ran kind of funky in my car. I got my centrifuge and made a batch up of 50% wmo and 50% this oil/mineral spirits I got. It runs extremely well and actually has cleaned my injectors and completely shut up the nailing that was going on. It's insane how quiet this thing is now. I did clog up the primary(little plastic) filter with crap after about 500 miles and 20 gallons though. I'm not sure if the contaminent is
1. Stuff directly from the fuel since I was running the centrifuge at the wrong flow and it wasn't getting near full speed.
2. Crap that has been gathering in the tank from the dino that the mineral spirits loosened up(fuel was hot when I put it in there too)
3. Algea crap from the heating oil.

I ran it all through a filter sock before and after the centrifuge, but it wasn't super fine. I be getting a 5 micron sock I'm going to pump through after I run this next batch to see if I'm clean or not. It's a little stinky so I'm gonna mess with mix levels after I get the pyro in it. The oil source says it may be much higher spirits content than he originally thought so I want to make sure I'm not cooking stuff or preignition issues.

Put some in a small container and see if it will burn on its own.
