What can't we burn in our diesels ???

I've been amazed lately at all the various
'alternatives' to diesel fuel that some of our
MB owners have been willing to run through
their diesel machines .. I guess it's a testament
to the versatility of these engines

So far, in no particular order, MB diesel owners
have tried the following fuels and or blends ..

diesel
aviation kerosene
kerosene
peanut oil
corn oil
canola oil
cootonseed oil
waste vegetable oils from fast food restaurants
hemp oil
waste engine oil
two stroke oil
home heating oil
jet A
jet B
CNC oil
used transformer oil
soybean oil
scented lamp oil
brake fluid
engine oil
small amounts of gasoline
automatic transmission fluid
rape seed oil
synthetic oil
dino oil
sunflower oil
Valvoline synthetic power steering fluid

Personally I can't wait until summer .. looking
forward to trying some "Coppertone" coconut oil in mine

Diesel just hit $1.99 a gallon at a place in Manchester. The heating oil I'm running cost me $1.55(it would have been $1.39 the week before!). The car runs the same, has the same power, smell and economy. The only difference is the price.

I accidently put about a half of a quart of Valvoline synthetic power steering fluid in the tank thinking it was Diesel-Kleen. (Same color plastic bottle) I ran it through with no problems so I guess you can add that to the list...not that I would recommend it!

Diesel 924,

Be Warned! Heating oil is indeed virtually the same as diesel fuel as far as function goes. BUT, there is no Federal highway tax charged on heating oil. THIS IS A FEDERAL OFFENSE AND THE PENALTIES ARE SEVERE!

Don't get yourself in trouble with the Federali's.

Good luck,

I'm sure a few diesel owners have had their tanks peed in. Darn kids!

Good luck,
In my 35 years on this planet I have never heard of anyone in a passenger car getting their tank checked. Besides, with the GIGANTIC check I am writing to the Feds April 15, they are getting plenty from me.

Maybe I ought to try using the waste oil from the CNC machines at work... :p It's a hell of alot cleaner than any other used oils previously mentioned.

If I add Citronella lamp oil to my peanut oil/#2 blend

will it drive away all the mosquitoes from our neighborhood???

But DON'T add brake fluid!!! It would probably eat up a lot of rubber and plastic seals in a hurry.

It used to be a standard practice for VW Diesel mechanics to fill the new fuel filter with ATF before installing it (on a warm motor to ease restarting) and this was said (by factory training reps.) to do a magnificent job of cleaning the injectors and lubing the pump as it went through the system, but it should never be done with newer types of injection pumps because of the viscosity problem, and I have also heard that the latest versions of Dexron/Mercon aren't chemically compatible with our older type pumps, either. Besides, the red color will leave traces which may be hard to explain to the Federales and the state road tax officials (who DO check private diesel cars and pickups here in Virginia!).
