unheated WVO?

can I run an 80% wvo and 20% diesel mix right out of the tank in the summer?
My thought is that for road trips I would get the car up to temp and then pour in 10 or 15 gallons of wvo. At the other end, I would tank up again with straight diesel and drive on a little bit before shutting down.
What I want to know is whether I will need a preheater for the WVO in the summer and how low the air temp can be before I would need some type of heating system.
thanks, Andy

thanks for the info. How cold have you gone? I assume that at some point the WVO is going to be troublesome because it is too thick. thanks.

i am in Minnesota, summer temps are 50s and 60s for lows 70s to 90s for the highs.
I plan on filtering fryer oil from the chinese place up the street.
the car is a 300d
I don't know what the injection pump is, I have heard that they are very robust and work well for this application.

300D... thats the 5 cyl 3 liter right? If it is yes that is a good car for about any fuel. buttttt. that said many of the waste oils can gel "SOLID" as early as 40F. Later if its mixed. Stick a thermometer in your fridge and freezer. Check the temps and adjust to what ever experemental temp you want. Then put a jar of your mixture into fridge and see what happens.

Im thinking in Minnessota you better heat the stuff.

Go here: http://biodiesel.infopop.net/2/OpenTopic?a=frm&s=465094322&f=166094322

do a lot of reading of previouse post before you go start asking lots of questions. Also on that site you will find Danalinscott. email him and he will send you a FAQ that will be a good starting point. He is in Michican or is it Minn. Damn I forget.. either way he deals with the cold too.

In Canada, I'm now running a blend of 30% WVO with springtime temperatures averaging between 40 at night and 65 daytime. Results are no less than spectacular. There is far less knock once the car is up to operating temp (more knock before), and the car definately has more power. On the cooler side of ambient temperatures however, I am hearing a "deep" knock occasionally, as if injector timing has been delayed a bit by the WVO. For this reason, I'm only going to increase my WVO once our hot summer sets in- and even then I would not go above 50%.
